Probably pointless but what's the earliest babies can fly?

Me & DP are currently TTC and I am learning that these things are never straightforward but if this TTC cycle is successful, there could be a few week old in the mix at Christmas! However, my mother has decided that she wants my siblings and step siblings with her in Spain at Christmas - is flying a total no-no?

as soon as they grow their wings

sory not very helpful someone will be along shortly I'm sure to answer your question properly

Dcs can fly very early - think its a couple of weeks- whether you would want to or not is a completely different matter...nothing would get me on a plane (damn fool ) before at least 6 weeks...

Imagine if you had an emcs...

Each airline is different some say 3 weeks some 6 so I would check ....

PestoSunshineMonster · 23/03/2009 13:00

I think they ought to have had their 6 week check-up before they can fly (although I'm sure it is physically possible for them to fly before that).

Hulababy · 23/03/2009 13:02

Some airlines will let babies fly after just a few days - you need to check with the individual airlines. It should say on their websites though.

Don't forget to give enough time to get a passport through.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2009 13:02

From a practical POV, how soon can you get a birth certificate and a passport? They can't fly before that.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2009 13:03

Something else for you to consider is that you could, in fact, be heavily pregnant at Christmas and unable to fly.

mumoverseas · 23/03/2009 15:36

I know several people who have flown with their babies aged from just two weeks. It may however depend on the airline though. My DS is 6 weeks and next week we are flying long haul with him.

As others have said though, you need to consider how long it will take to get the birth certificate and passport.

Good luck and hope you get lucky this time x

Thank you everyone!

As Mum wants us there and DP's work is family dominated, he is booking time off and we will book the flights as soon as with BA as they are the only flights on release at the mo and are around £120 return which, trust me after years of this, isn't bad at all for Christmas! With BA, babies (without wings FAQ!) can fly from 48 hours or up to 36 weeks pregnant - with doctors certs obviously. The birth cert / passport side of things I'd genuinely not thought of but the whole thing is running before walking etc as clearly still TTC!
