Some of you may remember that after a particularly bad trip to Legoland Windsor last year, I wrote a scathing letter detailing all my complaints.

They sent me a letter addressing each point in turn and how they might tackle each one.

Then they offered me free tickets to return and I refused saying I didnt want to go back.

So they offered me free tickets for any park in their group, so I got 4 free tickets to Alton Towers.

Just had a letter from them this morning, detailing some of the changes they have made and 4 free tickets to visit Legoland at any point this year.

I am suitably impressed

Quality service! So will you go.........

mosschops30 · 13/03/2009 13:56

Yes i think I will give it another go this year, so they have achieved what they set out to do.

God help em if its still shit lol

If its crap, tell us.....we could all write and then all get Alton Towers tickets and then all get plastered whilst all our children are on the rides............non?

mosschops30 · 13/03/2009 14:02

hey i dont get plastered when i go to alton towers, I make my children hold the coats and bags whilst I go on the best rides

Ah, I like it. So we could give them nets to catch our falsers, loose change, tena pants etc etc........

Fimbo · 13/03/2009 14:20

What was wrong Moss? I am taking the dc there later this year for the first time

mosschops30 · 13/03/2009 15:26

depends what you like Fimbo. We prefer alton towers as there are more rides for all of us to enjoy (dd is 12 and ds only 4). There is a whole area for ds there, but he can also go on lots of other stuff too, and I find that whenever you go the queues are well managed.

Legoland is aimed at younger children, when we went the queues were horrendous, we went in holiday times but even the little rides were hour to hour and a half wait (whereas at AT even the major rides are usually only an hour wait). The queuing is poorly laid out. The staff all wear different coloured uniforms which made it difficult to identify them should ds get lost, there was no pre-arranged meeting place for lost children and all they get is a sticker to go on their jumper which comes off, with your number on it (again at AT your child is given a wristband, with your number on the inside, and you are told where lost children are taken and all staff wear same jerseys).
Also the toilets were so disgusting, they were dirty and smelled or urine even at 9am when we arrived so you can imagine what they were like later.

But lots of people love it, I suppose its a matter of taste, but Id go to Alton Towers anyday over Legoland

Fimbo dear, if you can cope with the Wellgate/Overgate in Dundee then Legoland will be a doddle

Fimbo · 13/03/2009 16:12

Why do you think I moved away Saltire .

My dad keeps going on about Boots corner these days.

Thanks for that info Mosschops. I can put up with the queues but minging toilets just give me the boak.

Saltire · 13/03/2009 16:59

I can get you a discount on incotinence pants

Fimbo · 13/03/2009 17:01

LOL , are you near there now? We could set up a wee stall (oh the pun) by the entrance selling them.

Saltire · 13/03/2009 17:28

I can get them on dicount, then you can sell them at profit!

kylesmyloveheart · 20/03/2009 23:35

we are going to alton towers over the easter weekend - cant wait.

PortAndLemon · 15/04/2009 14:35

At Legoland this year (or two weeks ago, at any rate) the staff are all wearing the same colour and you are told the procedure for lost children. Contact details are still on a sticker, but it stayed on all day (to be fair, I put DS's on his T-shirt under his jumper; I also saw several parents who stuck the stickers to their child's back between the shoulderblades (presumably to discourage sticker-removal). And the toilets were clean and odourless.

We went on a weekday in termtime, though, so there were virtually no queues at all. I have every intention of going back repeatedly in early or late season but wild horses wouldn't drag me there, or to AT, or to any theme park, in mid-summer.

The fact that DS (around 105cm) could go on every ride bar one was a major selling point. That wouldn't be the case at AT (plus, of course, we live near LL and hence nowhere near AT, so matters of taste don't really enter into it ).

cerys · 15/04/2009 14:50

We went last week, it was fine, toilets were bit untidy at 6pm when we were leaving but fine at all other times.

We have never had a problem with stickers coming off.

We went to get tickets for the Jungle Coaster, DS was told he was tall enough (he is just 1.1m), but then the member of staff on duty when we returned at the alloted time wouldn't let him on. I emailed Customer Services about this, just wondering how he could have shrunk in an hour and they sent him a little Lego kit and a letter. I wasn't expecting that, so I am quite impressed.

PortAndLemon · 15/04/2009 15:07

You do need to be 1.3m for the Jungle Coaster, so I think you just had a numpty first time round (perhaps they normally work on a different ride and had forgotten that the Jungle Coaster rules are different?).

cerys · 15/04/2009 20:59

It's 1.3m unaccompanied on the Jungle Coaster, but 1.1m if a brave parent goes on with them . I don't have an issue at all with the height restrictions, just that the measuring sticks weren't consistent!

ChippyMinton · 15/04/2009 21:12

This year there are yellow boards which the kids stand on to be measured, so should be a bit more consistent.

Agree that the queuing is ridiculous - the staff are very slow at loading/unloading rides.

We have annual passes and although i do go on busy days, the DC have no expectation of getting on the big rides, which we do on inset days etc. If you are only there for a day, in school holidays, it is not worth the money.

Toilets are generally ok IME.

bodiddly · 15/04/2009 21:12

am considering taking ds to legoland soon .. he is 4.1 - we would go during the week term time as he is still at nursery so there are no restrictions until September! Would there be long queues do you think? I dont think he would handle waiting 1-1.5 hours just to go on a 1 minute ride!

ChippyMinton · 15/04/2009 21:20

That's the best time to go - check what days it's open though - sometimes it's shut on tues/weds in early/late season.

PortAndLemon · 15/04/2009 21:31

Yes, sorry, you're right -- I could remember that DS couldn't go on it, but forgot that he's shorter than 1.1m

bodiddly -- that's the best way to do it. We went on a termtime weekday a couple of weeks ago (DS is 4.2) and there were no queues at all for most things.

bodiddly · 15/04/2009 21:32

CM are there likely to be big queues even during the week do you think?

ChippyMinton · 16/04/2009 19:36

unlikely to be queues during the week, but avoid either side of the half term because of INSET days.

bodiddly · 17/04/2009 13:48

thank you .. thats good to know. Will probably be a friday as I am off on Fridays and I can hopefully persuade dp to skive off for the day and work the Saturday instead. Any other tips you can think of? Ds is 4 so I imagine he will be ok on quite a few of the rides.
