Campanile Hotels, and specifically in Saint Malo

Ever stayed in a Campanile?

Is it grim? It's certainly cheap!

Is the St Malo one in the town, i can't tell from the website.

They're ok.

They are not as bad a formule 1.

Never been to that one, you'll have to do a search on "mappy.com" with the address to see if it's in the town or not.

If it's only for a night or two I'm sure it would be fine - lots of business travellers.

I'v used campanille before but now use B&B- same prices as Campanille but the hotels tend to be slightly better.

Haven't been to the Campanile in St Malo, but generally, I like this chain. They are pretty standard bedroomwise, but have very homely restaurants. They are not grim.

However, for St Malo, I would prefer to stay intra muros, which means an independent hotel.

Intra muros being any old independent hotel? Funnily enough we are. Camapanile is a couple of miles out on the main road, and we've found a half decent family run hotel in Dinard.

Useful to know campanile ok for future reference though, we've also got a couple of nights in Paris so I need to sort something out for there.

Intra muros means within the walls of the old city.

Oh I see, it's a part of the town

I am of the opinion that if you are going to go to St Malo, you should stay as close to the centre as possible. If you are staying in the suburbs, you have horrible traffic to negotiate, and then the parking. If you are just looking for a bed for the night, you can stay almost anywhere in the region, depending on your ultimate destination.

We were in St Malo en route to our holiday in Southern Brittany. We arrived in Cherbourg and drove down the Contentin. Everything was fine until we were within 10 miles of St Malo, then the traffic slowed to a crawl. Our hotel was in the walls, which was fantastic. We had a bit of logistics dropping off our bags as there was no car access at that time of day. Once we were settled, we were able to sit outside with a glass of wine, with loads of outdoor entertainment and atmosphere at our feet. We were able to let our older child loose with 5 Euros each.

The alternative was to get a hotel right on the coast, where we could have still sat out, but with the kids playing in the sand.
