We went and enjoyed it but we were in the area anyway. I wouldn't travel from London especially.

Oh. I really had my hopes high for going there. My dds are 7 and 5 and am planning a few day trips for Easter for them.

Can I ask piscesmoon how long did you spend there? and the ages of your kids pls? Thank you for your reply.

We spent most of the day there and had lunch, they were 10 and 8 and enjoyed it. It was a while ago, hopefully you will get some recent visitors to give advice. I don't think it was the sort of WOW place to make the journey worth it.

I will bump it up for you-I would hate you to be put off by one person.

We are going on 21 March if you can wait for feedback until after then. However, we are only going because we are travelling from London to Manchester anyway and I am using Tesco's Clubcard vouchers to pay for it. Perceived wisdom seems to be that it is good, but not amazing.

pollywobbledoodle · 06/03/2009 10:35

it's local to us.
it's ok......better for the 6/7 or more yo kids than younger ones....
i wouldn't go that far out of my way tbh
dd went last year aged 4 but hasn't asked to go again

I went there prior to having dds. We travelled up for the day from the South Coast. There is enough there to interest you for half a day I reckon. Which is perfect if you have to factor in the travelling time to and from London.

I thought it was well worth it, especially as we too went prior to Easter and had the opportunity to stock up with lots of chocolate in their shop.

There will be chocolate you can taste (including the spicy liquid chocolate), there is a history of chocolate exhibition, we also had a mini-trip round the factory and in the shope they also had new chocolate bars that weren't yet available in the shops - great for presents!

Go, you will enjoy!

Thank you for all your input. I too are planning ahead for Easter and will be using the Tesco Clubcard vouchers to pay for this. I'll talk to hubby about this and maybe try to find another place close by to visit too and make a day of it.

I would be grateful if your input too pls annh. Thank you.

Go for it! We had a fun day there last summer whilst staying in the area with DCs aged 16,14,6 and 3. The chocolate making story bit was fun with clever presentations with sound and smell effects. Also enjoyed watching chocolate bars whizz round at the packing plant bit. Then you got to write your name in liquid choc! There's a fun interactive bit where you can be 'sculpted' in choc and jump about in choc 'puddles' through computer wizardry. The big ones even had a bit of interest in the Bournville model village story. Younger two liked watching the automated box stacking! Also reasonable outdoor play area and a special holiday magic show. Then there's the samples! And we made good use of our pass for the factory shop - lots of calorific bargains!
You can't pre book with your Clubcard vouchers, but we got there about 10am and got in straight away. Gets busy by lunchtime and you'd come after those who pre booked.

We had a fun time a couple of years ago. It was a couple of hours drive and ds loved it (so did I) lots of free chocs and some hands on stuff too. He was around 5/6. I would think it is worth doing even if it is a journey, if only to say your dcs have been to Charlie's chocolate factory.

But wear comfy shoes.

springdaffs · 10/03/2009 19:32

Went with my 11yr old.
Loved it but got a migrainne from picking out on too much free chocolate.

We went when the boys were tiny (about 2.5 and 4.5). That was 6 years ago and they can still remember Cadbury's World. It was good, but I have no desire for a return visit.

The smell of chocolate is divine for the first 20 mins, but after a while it gets a bit sickly, and within an hour it just made me want to retch!
