What would be an acceptable amount to give dd for trip to Disneyland Paris?

Shes going with school tomorrow and they have to take money for lunch and dinner plus fopr souvenirs.
I have just told her not to buy us anything, or her grandparents!! (she was planning on it).

So how much would you give for 2 days of lunch and dinner, plus a little something for them? I thought maybe £15 per meal, but then I thought that was ridiculous, but I dont want her to be short

£15 per meal is not ridiculous. We went to Disneyland Paris at New Year and it was very expensive.
Souvernirs also very expensive.
I know she would not buy this, but as a comparison a Cinderella dress which was £20 in the UK Disney Store was 70Euros in Disneyland

LIZS · 04/03/2009 20:56

Depends where they are going to eat tbh. Some of the park and village restaurants are pretty expensive, nearer £25, some are cheaper fast food places so £10-15. You should find menus and costs online. If they eat outside DLP it may well be much cheaper. Can the staff give you an idea ?

mosschops30 · 04/03/2009 22:03

Oh well I might go with the £15 then per meal, Id begrudge paying £15 for me never mind a 12 yr old!
REally £10-£15 for a burger and chips and things like that

£80 got me 80 measley euros. Guess she'll just have to manage

Can anyone else offer advice, Im struggling to believe that a meal costs £15-£25 per person

Can't you give her a packed lunch to take? Surely two meals out in one day is a bit excessive?

janestillhere · 05/03/2009 13:09

Honestly it's really expensive.

We won a trip there a few years ago and were shocked it cost us a fortune for food.

DS had chicken nuggets and chips when we arrived (drink included) and it was £18!

We had to just have a drink as we didn't enough changed into euros.

Give her some more, I think she will need it.

mosschops30 · 05/03/2009 13:12

pesto I could give her a packed lunch but it might be inedible by sunday!
She is of course taking one for tonights journey, but the rest of the meals are out

Sorry Mosschops, I thought she was actually going to the Park tomorrow

buggylovinmummy · 05/03/2009 13:18

It really is that expensive but there are a few places that are cheaper, they have a mcdonalds just outside the park and some cheap burger places in the park. You have to really hunt around to find the cheapest places. Most have a menu outside so you can check what food they offer and how much it is.

kslatts · 05/03/2009 13:19

Has the school said where they will be eating? We were shocked at how much we spent a couple of years ago, everything is really expensive.

Have the school advised how much the children will need? our school always tells parents a maximum the children can take on school trips which means it's fairer for the children whose parents can't afford as much.

?80 euros will probably be enough, I would expect the school to take the children to places that are reasonably priced, but that is difficult if they are eating in Disneyland.

mosschops30 · 05/03/2009 13:21

Well she's got 20 euros per meal, including drink so do you think that will be enough. However if she spends all that I will have to get some more for a little something for her. I was hoping on 15 euros per meal then she would have 20 euros left to spend on herself.
I really cant afford to spend anymore money on this trip.
Sadly the school have not set an amount (or even an estimate) which sadly means there will probably be children going with about 150 euros or something ridiculous like that

The souvenirs are very expensive as well. A mickey soft toy was 28 euros!! We went for 4 days before xmas and spent about 650 euros in 4 days but that was for 4 of us.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/03/2009 13:24

A school trip to Eurodisney? That's bonkers.

troutpout · 05/03/2009 13:25

ouch Buggy!
blardyell!!
We are going for 4 days in July for the first time
errrm.... got any saving money tips?

mosschops30 · 05/03/2009 13:26

Dear god!!!! 28 euros for a mickey mouse!!

What if she just had a sandwich at lunch, as she would normally? Surely that cant be 20 euros

DWP - its to do with St Davids Day and them having an area of the park dedicated to that, its a welsh department trip

Stick to the cheaper places to eat, you may eat junk for a few days but it saves money. We wanted to go to planet hollywood but for 4 of us it was going to cost £120!! so we went to mcdonalds round the corner for about £20 . Check the menus before you go in and check the price as then theres no surprises.

We did spend quite a lot on souvenirs for the kids though and these are very expensive.

Where are you staying trout?

We stayed at santa fe and another tip to save money is when you go for brekkie, they have rolls and ham, i got loads of this and discreetly made rolls to take to the park for lunch to save buying 2 meals a day.

Simplysally · 05/03/2009 13:33

It is expensive to eat there - a coffee is around 2/3 euros, I imagine a soft drink is about the same. She should be able to get a sandwich for about 5/6 euros. I took dd a couple of weeks ago but to economise on food, I bought baguettes and cut them in half for lunch .

Sadly the souvenirs aren't cheap either but I'm sure she'll have a good time anyway.

buggylovinmummy · 05/03/2009 13:33

I know moss its crazy. Theres not that many places that sell just a sandwich except maybe the station shop and it was a nightmare even just trying to get a drink for the kids that wasnt fizzy, i had to stock up in the shop at the station as my ds 2.5 doesnt drink fizzy.

troutpout · 05/03/2009 13:36

sante fe...ooh good brekkie/lunch tip...thanks!

Simplysally · 05/03/2009 13:37

Troutpout: if you are in a Disneyhotel and have the half-board option then you have effectively paid for your evening meal in advance and you can eat at a range of places (they're listed on the voucher). I can recommned the Steakhouse in Disney Village - I rolled out of there stuffed. The vouchers work out at 25 euros for 3 courses plus 1 soft drink for adults and 11 or 12 euros for children.

Fimbo · 05/03/2009 13:39

There is a burger type place where they do the Lion King Show. Which was slighter cheaper. They have little huts that sell stuff - maybe hotdogs??

Annette's Diner was really expensive so tell her not to go there.

There is a garage near one of the hotels which I think may sell pre-packed sandwiches.

There is as big hypermarket one stop down on the train, but that would be dependant on the teachers.

buggylovinmummy · 05/03/2009 13:42

trout take some sandwich bags from home to put them in and then just discreetly pop them into your bag-we got this tip from someone else. The breakfast hall in santa fe is really big so just sit out the way and nobody takes any notice.

But dont do what i did and roll the sandwich bags up into a tight little parcel as my bag got searched on the way out there and they had to unwrap them to check there was nothing in there im guessing they thought i might be a drug smuggler

troutpout · 05/03/2009 13:42

Nah went for brekkie only sally.
i'll try to take a few bits with me (water and cereal bars and stuff)
I expect you can nab fruit in the morning perhaps too?
other than that, we'll just have to eat junk for a few days

buggylovinmummy · 05/03/2009 13:43

Oooh fimbo that lion king show is good isnt it and you get cheap food there, def would recommend going there
