DH & I are flying 1st class & having 2 or 3 days in NYC & then flying to Boston for the rest of the week.

I've got lots of shopping planned, but not sure where else to go.

Have read tips for NYC which are very helpful.

Just wondering how to get the most out of both locations.

The Lion King on Broadway - fabulous
Museum of Modern Art
Times Square for some people watching
Ice skating in Central Park
ToysR US - with kids or not.
{envy]
Never been to Boston - it's on the list
Just enjoy it all and have a great time.

Do a duck tour in Boston. And walk some of the Freedom Trail.

I did the duck tour in Boston, it was great fun! I loved how the vehicle was land and water! If you like Italian, there is a fab restaurant, which only the locals really know about (well I guess not anymore! called Pasta Presto. It is just north of 42nd street (Grand Central Station) by about 6 blocks on the left side of the road. So it is basically at 48th and 7th. In saying this, I've not been there myself since 2002, but I know of others who have been within the past two years and still rave about it!
As for the sites, Ground Zero is worth a visit, it is a very poignant site, and although I have personally not been there since the monument was erected, others have said it is still as poignant as it was. Battery park is beautiful to sit and have a picnic in. Central park, go to the zoo, it is great fun! You have not said when you are going, but if it is post May and into the summer, they have open air theatre and bands that play, very often for free. The broadway and off broadway shows are fantastic...and the shopping from about 52-58th is superb! Also, Chinatown, and Greenwich Village are great even for just a stroll. (I have been to NYC many many times, and just speaking of what I used to love to do!) If you are into celebrity spotting, the village is always almost a guarantee, as well as the upper east side!

For Boston, I mainly hit the shops as well, is it just Boston, or are you getting to Cape Cod/Marthas vineyard as well? They are beautiful places to visit if you can get there, if you are, the whale watching tours are great! Have only been on two weekend trips to Boston, and one was mainly shopping, the other was seeing the major sites. We did a city bus tour, one of the hop on and off ones, as found that to be the best way to get around.

Hope you have a great time! Will be interested to hear if you are into Italian, and do check that restaurant out!

Go on the (free) Staten island ferry.

Go up to the Top of the Rock (I personally think it is better than the Empire State Building as you can then see the Empire State Building and Central Park).

Go to Harvard and rub the shoe of "the statue of 3 lies" for luck

Visit Qunicy's Market in Boston around lunchtime. It's great, an indoor food market with just about every food imagainable. Lot's of shopping around too. Would also 2nd the duck tour in Boston.

NY - The 2 must see's for me are Empire State and Statue of Liberty.

You'll have a great time, both places are just fab.

tartan...I missed that at Harvard, have heard about it though...will have to save it for another trip! Has it worked for you? (with the luck?!)

Oh, forgot to say, go up to the Top of the Rock a little before sunset so that you can see the city in daylight and then lit up at night as well.

shortcircuit · 05/03/2009 14:31

thanks - am making note !

I had a look at the duck tour, what happens when you go in the water ? (don't want to freak out!)

We are also thinking of driving around up to Freeport Maine (shopping) & going to New Hampshire.

Any one been there ?

I loved Mr Bartley's Best Burgers in Harvard Square, on the Boston metro red line.

www.mrbartley.com/mrbartleys-photopress.html

It's really famous, and regularly features on 'best burgers and fries in America' lists.

It's one of those low-cost, chaotic diners with memorabilia on the walls.

The Duck converts into a boat when you go in the water, so you float!
