I'm going to take the chidlren to a Eurocamps site in Picardy in France at Easter. Friends who went there last year tell me ti willtake me about an hour o r so to get to Dover and the a similar time the other end. I can't get my head round what would be a good time for the ferry crossing to be (I'm on the website booking it at the moment!). Any advice gratefully received.

TIA

I have taken ferries to france for the last 9 years with the family. the first time dd was 9 months old. You need about 45 minutes check in time. Sea France always leave late!It is about 2 hours on the boat and then pretty quick on the other side out of Calais/customs etc. The roads in France are great and not busy at all. I tow a caravan down to the Med. Good luck with it all.

thank very much mackie9117. I'm planning on going by myself with the children as DH is very busy with work. Just wondering about the weather at easter time. I'm assuming it will be rather like the UK huh?

What about the Eurotunnel? Only costs a little bit more, takes 35 mins and don't have to get anyone out of the car (train though does have a toilet).

thanks for the idea SDR. What difference will it make to my journey at the other end? Does the Eurotunnel come into Calais too? I am terribly ignorant of travelling to France as you can tell . Sorry

The eurotunnel is great too though feels a bit frantic with check in and rush rush rush! It comes out just south of calais. You can buy michelin maps ( which are like our ordinance survey maps) in bookshops in the uk. It will show you where the tunnel comes out. I'm sure you've remembered to add on an hour when you get to france! I also travel alone with my daughter ( husband joins us after 10 days)so well done to you for giving it a go!
