Any ideas for VERY cheap break to France?

Anyone good at bargain hunting? As it's half term and I'm off work from Wednesday to next Monday (INSET) I thought it'd be nice to take dcs to France for the day. But there's bugger all to do in Calais, and the ferry times for Boulogne are rubbish for a day, so I thoguht about an overnight stay?

BUT it needs to be very cheap, as does the ferry cost. I'd like to spend no more than £100, including food, entrance fees etc. also we'll drive to Dover, but I'm not too confident about driving on the other side of the road so where can I leave the car at Dover, and alsoo we'll need a hotel and things to do that are walkable. dc are 9 and 7 BTW.

Anyone?

TIA!

i don't think you will really manage it for for £100 including hotel etc.

Why not go for the day on the ferry and go for a shop at City Europe, and the dc can try some french food etc there?

Dieppe is nicer than either Calais or Boulogne. Dunquerque is better too.

Agree on above. Boulogne has a good aquarium but isn't the most inspiring french town! B&B's french hotel chain does rooms for up to 4 people for ?30, they are clean and comfy just very basic.

Dieppe is nice for a day trip or an overnight stay. there is a shuttle bus from the ferry port to the town and you can sometimes pick up a ticket a the port as a last minute foot passenger
