Travel Insurance - any suggestions of who offer the best deals for family of 4?

I am looking to book travel insurance for myself, DH, DD (18 months) and DS (3 months). We are going to France for a week in March, and then to the US to visit relatives in September. I think its probably therefore best to get a worldwide anual insurance policy rather than two single trips, one for the US and one for Europe? I find it so confusing trying to compare costs and policies as there are so many variables that are all slightly different, so wonder if anyone can recommend something they know to be a good deal? IN teh past I have used Insure and Go, and they seem to be doing kids free, and it comes is at £64 total (on the basic package). But it also has winter sports cover 'free' and not sure if I am actually paying for that somehow when I dont actually need it.
Any tips/recommendations gratefully received!

We've used Direct Travel for the last couple of year. Admittedly we've never taken out years insurance as we don't travel a great deal, but parents do and they've found them very good. Mum has had a heart attack so usually insurance is sky high for her too.

I believe the Post Office offers good deals on travel insurance

If you have any pre-existing conditions then a cheapie policy won't do.

When we were going to the USA two years ago, none of the cheap companies would insure us because DD had been hospitalised with asthma in the previous year. Since asthma is one of the things we specifically wanted cover for, we had to go with better insurance.

We ended up with AxaPP for £200 for the seven of us (annual policy). It is pretty good insurance, beyond the coverage for pre-existing conditions too.

We are covered now with Axa, but didn't bother in the past with trips to Europe as we were covered for health stuff via E111 (EHIC).

We used Direct Line for our trip to the US. My son had a horrendous accident and needed plastic surgery, which the dr wanted us to pay for up front (long story). We were told that we were very lucky to have such good coverage, and I have to say, they were very helpful and supportive.

Hope you have a great trip.

By the way, I think it can work out cheaper to get annual coverage if you want cover for more than 1 trip.

And if you are planning to go to the US, cheapness should not be the deciding factor, but amount of cover.
