Longleat monkeys - are we right?

I know you can bypass them.

But DH and I have had a theory that if you don't stop driving, it's ok. they don't jump on the car if it's moving.

It's only the cars which stop which have monkeys jump on them.

What do you think?

i think they stole the trim from our windscreen and we didn't stop. our car is now held together with gaffer tape.

Penthesileia · 13/02/2009 08:55

Hmmm. Not sure... Been a long time since I was last at Longleat.

Go in a friend's car.

hockeypuck · 13/02/2009 08:59

You are right. You go in and you keep moving at all costs! But this doesn't apply to red cars or unusual cars. The monkeys adore bright red cars and will jump on them if moving slowly. Also if it's an interesting car they haven't seen a lot of they will definitely come and have a closer look.
I love those monkeys!

barbie1 · 13/02/2009 09:00

the thing is its hard to stop moving because the cars in front tend to stop! there are only certain points in which you can over take, getting to that point is the hard part without having a tyre pinched, the headlights attacked and a family of monkeys joyriding on the roof...you can get a coach through, its £5 i think???

I went to Longleat at the end of last summer. Went in my car with DB and his gf (they were afraid to take their car, to be fair, it is nicer than my car ). I drove slowly through the monkeys, stopped once briefly. They didn't touch my car at all but when I first drove in to the monkey bit, they were virtually all on one particular car (a navy blue zafira shaped car). They didn't seem at all interested in mine (silver and dirty!). It was a busy day when I went, which helped - many more cars for the monkeys to choose from.

LowSlungAndOverhung · 13/02/2009 09:05

We kept going but they still managed to pee on our roof and down our winscreen. It was fairly grim.

Geepers · 13/02/2009 09:10

If you value your car at all, don't go in. My children reallt panicked and didn't like it, and we couldn't get out because all the other cars had stopped.

brimfull · 13/02/2009 09:10

we have had most of the rubber bits taken by the monkeys,it was a red car funnily enough
then a tiger bit a massive hole in the bumper quite exciting at the time but dh was peeved when he saw the damage

Furball · 13/02/2009 09:13

phil jupitus does a very funny sketch on how the monkeys meet in the morning to discuss which parts they need to take in order to build their own car to escape in.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/02/2009 09:15

Hmm, sounds like it's pot luck.

DH definitely precious about his car, but it's pale blue not red. Interesting theory!

I think we'll have to bypass

It wasn't pot luck the day we went in. All cars were jumped on and had bits removed.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/02/2009 09:27

they ripped my aerial off as it had a shrek head thing attached - they were banging shrek's wee head on my windscreen . Also lost all of my rubber trim - to replace aerial and trim was nearly £100. Was good fun though.. .

southeastastra · 13/02/2009 09:29

i like this thread

Geepers · 13/02/2009 09:29

Blimey, not sure I like your idea of fun Hangingingbelly ;) Nights out with you must be a barrell of laughs

Picante · 13/02/2009 09:32

Just go in your sister's clapped out banger. That's what I did. Brilliant fun!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 13/02/2009 19:56

We went in and didn't stop - we had a monkey on the roof. It was still on the roof when we got to the exit of the monkey enclosure and I was worried about taking it in to the lions or tigers so had to do an emergency stop to dislodge it.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/02/2009 21:59

LOL at emergency stop with a monkey on the roof!!!

Crikey.

DH is still dithering. We're hopefully going on Sunday, so he's got 36 hours to make up his mind.

thanks for the responses, btw.

Our DC's had a biology lesson they did not need at Knowsley safari park. Mrs monkey was spreadeagled across the windscreen and Mr monkey was humping her from behind.
A missing wiper blade I could have coped with.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/02/2009 22:06

Oh gosh.

we're going with granny. I don't know how I'd cope!

Let us know how you get on! This thread is Worst case i saw was the rubber front window seal pulled out and the monkeys had 'peeled' back the glass. The driver had got right round to exit like it, rangers shooed monkeys away and driver was almost crying! Have fun...!

the monkeys can easily damage your car.

we had one of the lions bit a hole in my back tyre. apprently the sun shines on the hub cap and attracts them. weird experience but ds loved it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2009 19:59

Woburn monkeys are so much nicer. In Longleat they are armed with spanners and screwdrivers.

Will never ever take our car in again after they sytematically removed our trim and washer jets and windscreen rubbers.

We too had a tiger bite a hole in our bumper. We were quite proud of the teeth marks!

A friend was peturbed by the monkeys - they had a little pet spider that lived between their wingmirror and door. The monekys ate it - the bastards.
