Disney Paris plus somewhere else?

I have no idea if this is feasible or not, or how I go about organising it, so any advice would be much appreciated. We are thinking of taking the children to Disneyland Paris this summer, but as it will probably be our main summer hol, I am considering putting a week or so somewhere else on the end of it. I guess I want to know things like - should I book these things separately, ie book Disney, book eurostar, book car hire, book a cottage somewhere, or is there a nice website where I can put it all together in one go? I really don't know France well at all, so can anybody suggest somewhere nice within a couple of hours' drive of Paris? DDs are 5 and 2 so we don't want hours in the car. We've been to Rouen and loved Normandy but are completely open to suggestions. Beach might be nice for the kids, but a pool would be fine too.
Um. Any good ideas?
Oh, also - how many days at Disney would you recommend?

how about Paris itself?

boogeek · 09/02/2009 17:24

We've been - and I'm not sure my children will get much from it? Thanks for the suggestion though ;)

I love Paris with kids. Park, running round the squares, citron presse in cafes, bit of art. Lovely. Perfect antidote to the hell of Disneyland Paris too! The beach on the Seine would be there in summer too.

Still, understand that you fancy a non-city break, which makes perfect sense, Brittany is lovely. Lots of great coastal places. Within reasonable driving distance of Paris, I think (am hazy on French geography). You could get the ferry back from St Malo.

A bunch of us took our 4 year olds to Paris for two days last year and they loved it, mainly walking around, doing parks, chocolate shops, cafes, the carousel at Sacre Couer, but had great fun, however I can see the two year old might not. How about a siblu park on the coast for a few days after disneyland paris?? or a Gite somewhere, Rennes is lovely, if a little small, but you could pass a weekend there.

Thanks everybody. I really don't want to do a city, lovely as Paris is! Is a siblu park one of these camping malarkies?

caravaning actually tho I think you can camp too if you want, there's usually a link off this site somewhere.

I'm going here in May taking the kids to Disney. canvas also go to anoher (bigger) campsite near paris too. You could book it all then dip in and out of Disney as you wanted, pop into paris, play by the pool, go to Parc d'Asterix or visit some of the lovely chateaux nearby. If you are staying long then the bigger campsite might be better here - had good reviews from lots of people about both. that option would cut down on the driving. othewise you could try Normandy - then again it's less driving as you're near the ferry ports - here or alternatively try the Loire valley - Canvas has a few there. I've only shown you canvas but there are loads of operators (can use Tesco vouchers with Canvas and Siblu) so shop around. It would be quite a drive to/from brittany (although it is fab!) for only a week. there is also the option of driving up to Holland and going to Duinrell but that's another big holiday park type place somaybe not!

Thanks Leslaki, I'll take a look!

Depending on your budget you could do DLP and a week at Centre Parcs, theres one 3 hrs due south of Paris, in the Loire region or one about an hr away northeast (I think) of Paris in the Champagne region. Its at Lac d'Ailette, 30mins from Reims) A daytrip to Parc Asterix is v. easy from here too (we did it anyway).

We've been to both CP locations I've mentioned. There is a third on the coast in Normandy I think.

Canvas or Siblu sites would be cheaper of course, if you want to go for that sort of accommodation and a good alternative as you'll have better weather in the summer and don't need to be so dependant on an indoor pool.

boogeek · 16/02/2009 13:33

Oh thanks - that's definitely an idea. We are going to CP in May (in the UK), but it's definitely worth considering as the kids just love it. I think what I really want is a lovely cottage. But I don't really know what exactly I want, which is always a problem, and don't know France well enough to know where to look.

we are going to Disneyland Paris for 3 days in July followed by a week in Centreparcs which I think (hope!) is only around 1 to 2 hours from Paris.

DadInsteadofMum · 23/02/2009 21:23

There is a Pierre & Vacance site (similar to CP) about half way between Calais and Disney we combined the twoa few years ago and found it worked well

Othersideofthechannel · 24/02/2009 14:59

Lac D'Ailette is on the way back to Calais from Paris and has a great swimming pool.
