Read an srticle yesterday where the writer had had a good but cheapo holiday courtesy of Aldi Travel. Anybody else used it? Would you give it a go?

I like lots of Aldi produce but not sure if I would trust them with my summer holiday. But tightened circumstances means we are looking for a cheapo break so maybe...

I have no experience of it but they certainly have a pretty well established travel set up advertised through their German & Austrian branches. To be honest I'd give it a go.

Thank you VLR. Anybody else? Are you snifty because it's Aldi? I bet if it was Ocado travel you'd all be piling in.

I looked up a holiday on the AT site just now and they were quoting about £1500 for a week in Lanzarote in August (family of 4). But then looked up the accommodation on Trip Advisor and it was grimola.

They are not ATOL bonded so not selling holiday packages as far as I can see.

Aldi offer a policy called, Supplier Failure Cover (SFC) which covers DIY holidays sold by non ATOL travel agents. But I;m not convinced about it.

I think it is important that you check the wording on the policy (you can download it from the ALDI site in the T&C's) and do not presume you will be covered by the SFC, when in fact the policy informs you, in the event of a supplier failure you must seek other routes to reclaim your losses first, such as ATOL and credit card protection.

So book using your credit card incase one of the suppliers (airline, transfer company, hotel supplier etc) goes bust.

Can you book on their travel site using a credit card? Could someone tell us?

Yes you can pay by CC, but they charge you 2% for this, up to a maximum of £25.

I agree about their Supplier Failure Cover, wotzy. They seem to be avoiding a proper ATOL licence.

They are operated by On Holiday Group who also trade as Fresh Holidays and Jet2 Holidays.

I remember their chief exec from my days in the travel industry - he's an obnoxious, self-publicising, bully. Not that that would stop me booking with them if they were offering a hotel I wanted at a bargain price!

Exactly choppy, holiday makers will take their chances if it means its cheap and they can boast about what a bargain they have! I suppose that is their USP, the idea that it is supplied from a low cost retailer, so it must be value.

Its only later when things go wrong (like XL) and folk are moaning on and on on chat forums about how they haven't got a penny back, how many calls they've made and how much time they've wasted in trying to recover their costs.

Do you still dabble in travel?
