South Sardinia - who's been?

O.K - We've managed to get some budget flights to Cagliari and we're thinking of staying around the area of Chia or Pula for summer half term. Our last holiday was a week in Tuscany - we're expecting Sardinia to be a much slower paced week with some sight seeing thrown in. Recommendations for where to stay and what to do please.

We stayed at is morus pre children but wouldn't particularly recommend it - didn't feel very Sardinian. All the families seemed to be going to the forte which is very expensive. We preferred su gologone but this is in the centre of Sardinia.Doesn't take too long to travel to other bits of Sardinia though on the main roads and this is worthwhile.
Chia beach is wonderful. The sand is really like the photos and the sea is clear. This is probably a good base.

We love Sardinia but we stay with friends normally. It is very different to Tuscany though - a bit wild and unkempt in comparison. Nora is well worth visiting as are the various nuraghi. It is worth exploring different beaches often down a track you end up in a spot with no one else on a lovely beach. The Sardinians enjoy their food like all Italians (although they definately feel Sardinian not Italian) and we have always eaten well particularly if you go where the locals go.Hope you have a great holiday.

Went to Forte Village last September - we thought it was lovely. Definitely hire a car - Cagliari is worth a day trip in itself.

Second Nora.

Just a shame it rained for 6 out of 10 days!

We stayed at the Flamingo in Santa Margherita di Pula. You can book direct or via Citalia. Cheaper than most of the larger hotels in that area. It is very popular with italians and has a nice local feel to it. However, make sure you book an "i nidi" suite as the rest of the rooms are a little tired (think Greek islands 20 years ago ).

Second Chia beach.........absolutely stunning. Our kids had a field day in the surf and the water is crystal clear.

Also agree with Nora. We spent a morning there and we were really stunned by it. The ampitheatre is still half intact and the village layout is clear and fascinating. The views from the village site are beautiful too.
