Hotel with toddler, what were we thinking?

In a late night fit of extravagance, DH & I booked 5 nights in a nice hotel as a pre-baby number 2 treat. The hotel says it is v child friendly, does children's meals and has a play area etc plus is in pretty countryside, so we congratulated ourselves on planning a break that would give us a chance to relax and that 2year old dd would like.

Now in the cold light of day (deposit paid) the thought has suddenly struck me: DD goes to bed at 7. What on earth are we going to do in the evenings? We have one room for all of us so do we sit silently in the dark once she's asleep? Take turns to go to the bar? Keep her awake (shudder)?
Any tips?

Maybe ask for a room near the restaurant/lounge/bar/wherever you want to be? So that the monitor works.

kingfix, if the hotel is truly baby friendly they will do a listening service (yes they use the phones but they should be listening the whole time not just checking once in a while) so you can have a drink in the bar/meal in the resturant. We went to Moonfleet Manor a couple of weeks ago and used this service for a 6 month old and 2 yr old (seperate rooms) and it was fab. In fact the listening service was so good they came to get our friend when his mobile went off in the room!

Which one are you going to?

ooh hallo, this had dropped off 'I'm on' so didn't realise there were more comments. Am a bit nervous about listening service - it looks like quite a big hotel, what if there's a fire? (PFB? Over-anxious? Me?)
Anyway, will see how it goes with delayed bedtimes etc. Thanks everyone.

We are v bad and always book a room with a separate sitting room (like a suite) so toddler can go to sleep in there, or an interconnecting room. Extravagant maybe, but otherwise feels like a waste of time going.

We went on holiday on cruise and same scenario of all settle in at kid's bedtime. However I wish I'd booked a balcony room and atleast we could have sat outside weather permitted.
