FERRY
Def!!!
We go in, have an (overpriced) meal (but very often you get vouchers), then its time to get out.
Mine love looking at the sea, other boats, going into the shop etc.

At Dover Calais, they will also put you on an earlier Ferry if there is room - we have done this many times coming back.
The Dover Dunkerque Ferry is often much cheaper.

We have been doing this since my youngest has been 5months - I think its good for them to break yp the journey/ stretch their legs in the middle of a long trip.

The tunnel is so much better in my opinion, also have 3 dc, its so easy on and off no waiting around at all, our last ferry crossing was a nightmare they were striking in France and it meant we had to stay on for 2 hours.

If Dover/Calais (or close by) is the right crossing, then we take the Tunnel.

We don't mind the ferry for the longer crossings, but it is not worth the faff for the short ones.

The Tunnel is great - almost magical.

We do the tunnel at 11pm ish drive through the night and stop for breakfast just before our destination of south France. My ds is 3.4. DS doesn't usually sleep till we are off the train the other side as he is (like me!) nosey but then he sleeps all the way down. DP and I sleep through the day, the day before at my parents (half way from our home in South Wales and the tunnel) so that we can take turns to drive.

tunnel, far mroe restful than having to drag the kids out of the car on the ferry and it's quicker.

BTW, when getting prices for the eurotunnel, it can work out cheaper to book two singles rather than a return. I've jsut booked it for easter - we're driving to holland and germany.
