We were going to go to another European city but walking around in the rain didn't appeal. So we are either going to stay in London or go to see friends near Manchester or Sussex. Could do Hampshire as well Any ideas? Share all for other to read.
P.S We are Londoners and have already do the popular stuff so any inspiration welcomed.

We take DDs 9 and 7 to London at least once a year for a day trip or a weekend. So much to do there. You must try The Duck Tours if you have not already,

starbear · 22/01/2009 22:13

We've seen Duck tours but thought DS was to small then. Good idea.

We are in Berkshire and my two boys (7 and 5) love the London Transport Museum at Covent Garden. It's £8.00 to get in for an adult and kids are free. There is a "trail" for them to follow around the museum with various hands on activities. Take a packed lunch or have something in the cafe (not too pricey). I've been there during half term/summer hols and weekend and it's never seemed too busy.

Yep. Second Transport Museum. Parents take a book or a newspaper and enjoy some time out. They have a play area next to some tables. Its not a proper cafe it just sells tea and coffee from a makeshift table (great no nagging for other things) My DS wanted to play for hours and I could see him clearly.
Not as big as it used to be but more hands on stuff like driving a bus or train.

Don't forget the slightly posher cafe upstairs (only been there once tho') . Agree with the other area tho'. The kids have been happy exploring while I have a cuppa.

Oh yes, still like the play area I can zone out for a while for the price of a cuppa. I like Convent Garden anyway for the street entertainers.

Get the network south east booklet - either from a train station or view online. Loads and loads of two for one offers for all sorts of different places, from big tourist attractions like tower of London, to restaurants, to the Thames Clipper boat that runs between waterloo and O2/Excel

starbear · 23/01/2009 16:26

Thames clipper. Have you try it? What's at the other end to see O2 etc? Tell me more.

Come on up to Manchester and do your bit for the economy at the Trafford Centre, nice and warm in Feb! Or next door at Chill Factore (snow dome, so a bit colder).

Catch the train down to Altrincham and go ice skating, take in a visit to the Halle, visit the museums (but not Urbis, it really is crap).

Then come over to Cheshire for Tatton Park, (lovely play area), Lyme Park etc.
