Cost of an infant on lap on American Airlines?

Has anyone flown on AA with an infant on their lap? If so, did you have to pay the fees and taxes? And a portion, 10%?, or the adult fare?
We are flying with DD who will be over 2, and DS who will be 10 months, and trying to work out what the true saving is in not purchasing a seat for him. You cannot book a lap infant through the website, it says phone after booking, but wihtout telling you the proper pricing policy. I'll call them tomorrow to find out, but if anyone has experience in the meantime I would be grateful!

I did look at some of their prices but can't remember what the charge was for an infant, but am sure they include taxes/fees. If you are looking at a specific flight then look at the links on MoneySavingExpert, there are links to loads of flight searches.

Thanks washersaurus - those links are brilliant!

Thanks MrsPickles, and for looking at old emails. We flew the same route with DD who was 9 months, last April. We booked her a seat in the end (though cant remember what was the cost of not booking her one, if there was one, hence the post!). Thought they were appalling re the bassinet. I phoned them way in advance to ask about booking, and like you say was advised it was first come first served. But when we arrived at the check-in counter and I asked about it the lady looked at me like I was mad! We were completely early for it and said those seats had already been taken, but I could ask at the desk at the gate. Well, they looked at me like I was mad too! I eyed the people in those seats when I boarded the plane, and they didnt have babies, or children, and nor did they obviosuly look as if they had other mobility needs. Of course, I dont know that they didnt for sure, but I was somewhat puzzled as to how anyone actually got the bulkhead seats! In fact now I come to think of it, I think i remember thinking they didnt actually have bassinets on those aircraft. I kind of hate AA, but they are the only carrier to fly direct on this particular route, so have been 'forced' to fly with them for years and years (to see family).

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say (I have discvoered in the meantime you can actually hold a reservation for 24 hours which is helpful).

well thats interesting to hear you got the bulkhead at the gate! Worth us trying again then (though, as you say, not hugely worth it if not bassinet, but a bit more room I guess). Reassuring to hear they were good with your buggy, I think they were with ours actually, desptie my overall dislike of them!
