Hi, anyone know what the weather is like in general in Feb?
Is it hot?

TIA

warmer than here, and less rain, but not hot. not swimming weather.

It will be quite chilly from late afternoon into evening until early morning. Middle of day, the sun will be warm, but if there is a breeze (especially if you are near the water), you'll need/want long sleeves and probably a lightweight jumper or fleece.

Definitely not swimming weather.

Oh rats.

Thanks. Was hoping to combine dh work with holiday trip- but essentially in desperate need of sun, so maybe this i not a great idea.

It will definitely be pleasant (and you're sure to have sun), but not frolic-in-the-water-in-your-bikini weather!

May i ask, do any of you guys live there? i'm particularly interested in Manhattan Beach and what it's like..

Very nice, you might not swim but good chance of wearing shorts in the day (and maybe short sleeves, too). The weather will be very much like a British summer, basically. Sun will be plenty, it's April-May when the sun disappears almost completely most days.

Earlybird · 18/01/2009 16:54

No I don't live there, but one of my dearest friends lives a few beach towns away (Redondo Beach). DD and I visited her in March last year, and made our first ever trip to a Disney Park. It was fun.

I have visited LA many times for business over the years, but don't specifically know Manhattan Beach.

lljkk · 18/01/2009 16:54

I don't live there, I used to live about 150 miles away.

Well....I went last year at end of feb, expected it to be mild, you know long tops no coat.

We were in LA with shorts and strappy tops, tons of sun cream, it was glorious! Apparantly it was a little warmer than usual, but not stupidly so. It was glorious for the entire two weeks we were there and we all had lovely tans...then went to NYC from there and it was freezing!

Bertolli · 18/01/2009 16:59

Thanks guys. This is why i love mn
lljkk-seriously, like British summer time? That sounds fine actually..

Clearly, its not warm by their standards...we were on the beach at MoonBay in SF, and it was a little breezey but lovely and warm (not as warm as LA but still short sleeved tops)...we went to get back in the car and there were an old couple sitting in their car drinking something hot from flask, they said 'you are not from here are you?' and I laughed and said 'no, how can you tell' and the woman said 'no-one around here would walk around dressed as you are in this weather, we would all be wearing jumpers or coats!

I like Manhattan Beach: it has a relaxed vibe and a little aquarium at the end of the pier. Parking can be a nightmare though.

Bertolli · 18/01/2009 18:43

Anyone stayed at Shade?

OP posts:
Bertolli · 18/01/2009 21:43

Okay i'll take that as a no! (long shot)

Last question- is there much difference weather wise between going in February or March? Does it get significantly hotter?

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 18/01/2009 22:09

We were there feb and March and it hotter while we were there...not stupidly so but certainly did notice it.

Bertolli · 18/01/2009 22:36

Thanks

Yes, I would describe a southern California winter as climatically exactly like a British summer, except less rain and sunshine is more reliable (in CA, I mean).

March is getting towards the cloudy season... you could get a bad Pacific storm, that's the only caveat (and it applies any time before 1 April). So don't assume that it WILL be sunny and warm-ish, you could just get unlucky and be there a week of a storm. Also, it always cools down a lot at night (dry air), so you will want many more clothes at night than you needed all day (but still, just think British summer, and you'll be generally alright).

Thanks for the info lljkk
Eek i've been excited all day about the prospect!!!!

Have been to LA over valentine's weekend on a few occasions, weather has been mostly tshirt weather, but on 2 visits we've been unlucky enough to get caught in the deluges. When it rains, you know it rains! The storm drains couldn't cope with most of the rain where we were
