Any recommendations for holiday with 2 children under 4 where you don't have to share a room?

Hi
We're looking to go away for a week mid June. We'd ideally like to go somewhere a maximum of a few hours flight away (have been thinking Greek islands or Cyprus). We'd like to be near a beach for the children but don't necessarily need a pool. Most of the resorts I've seen seem to assume you want to share a room with your ones. That doesn't sound like a holiday to me. We all tend to keep each other awake when we share.
Our children will be 18 months and nearly 4. We aren't really fussed if there's a childrens' club or not as long as there's lots else to do in the area.
Oh, and obviously I'd prefer it to only cost about a fiver
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks

OK, they are not in Greece/Cyprus but some are on lakes

We just book a 2 bed apartment when we go away. Are you having problems getting one?

We are going to mil-s apartment in Paphos in April if you fancy something like that?

It has 2 bedrooms.

Thanks for you responses.
sellorrenovate - I'll take a look at kinderhotels. TBH I don't mind where we go as long a it's warmer than our last holiday in Wales I definitely need a dose of sunshine.
aGalChangedHerName - we haven't had any problems getting apartments. I've only just started looking really. The apartments I've seen seem to charge on a 4 adult sharing basis although maybe I need to look into that further. When you go do you normally end up paying more if it's just 2 adults with children in a 2 bed? I'll have a look at the apartments you mention.

I want to second Kinderhotels - we have been twice and loved it. All the hotels we looked at had family rooms/suites where the kids room was off the parent#s one but with no exit to the corridor if you see what I mean.

We aer totally sold on the lakes and mountains holidays and LOVE Austria. Very child friendly. We stayed in one right on a huge lake with its own private (small) beach and shallow water for the kids.

I can't remcommend them enough. My kids keep asking when we can go back, but money is tight now so we can't

re the kinderhotels suggestion - does anyone know if you can book via an british travel agent like you can for pierre and vacances (eg crystal do their parks), I am looking but finding it tricky to navigate the websites and to understand what's what!?

Yes, you book through Dertours. They have a Kinderhotel person and she is really helpful. We told her our requirements and she suggested the hotels that fit it.

Have a look at the first choice holiday villages, they have "kids den" rooms which are separate from the parents and decorated in kid's style.

A self-catering villa is the best bet if you want your own room. Simply Travel has them everywhere. We've self-catered with Simply in Corsica, Greece (Lefkas, Zykynthos & Crete) and always had a good time. Cyprus is another option. But we especially Corsica cos the food there is great as well. Otherwise if you want the half-board/all-inclusive type of thing the best you can probably do is an aparthotel which is usually a 1-bed suite - the kids go in the bedroom and you get to sleep in the living room. Well at least you're separate from them, right?

Thanks all. I've had a look at Kinderhotels. They look great but probably a bit expensive for us this year unfortunately. I'll have a look at the other suggestions. Corsica sounds good. We had a great sailing holiday there pre children and I remember it being very beautiful with lovely blue waters

Which Kinderhotels has anyone been too?

I agree that sharing room with kids is no holiday. Even the put them in the bedrooom and you on the sofa bed in a standard SC apartment doesnt do it for me as you are all up once the first is up. At least with a 2 bed you can take turns at lie ins. The holiday companies dont really seem to offer this or if they do it is very expensive. Have found that is best to book accommodation & travel separately. We have just been away to Lanzarote. Booked a 2 bed apartment through www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/. It was £275 for the week right by the sea but no pool. The site seems to offer places to suit a wide range of budgets and needs. There is a specific filter for children welcome. We had a lovely double room with en-suite. DD had a cot in the other room which they supplied but also had twin beds. We booked our flight and car hire separately. Am expecting no2 and would definitely go back as plenty of room for 2 kids and us to have an enjoyable holiday and would definitely use the site again to find accomodation elsewhere including UK.

I've just come back from Chilly Powder in the French Alps and had a fabulous time. They have adjoining suites. I know they are open in the winter for skiing and the owners were talking about the summer so I am sure they are open in the summer too. www.chillypowder.com

GrapefruitMoon · 06/02/2009 13:45

if you are not going in school holidays you might be able to get a "deal" on a 2bed apartment. Many moons ago we went on holiday with dd and got one - it was great. Otherwise, you seem to get one bedroom and a sofabed at best - not my idea of relaxing!

The other option is a mobile home - would be cheaper than an apartment and I know there are some good sites in Corsica?
