I'm trying to work up the energy for a city break

I was expecting ds2 to have an operation next month, so half term was kind of wiped out. But it won't be until March now, so we have some time free.

I was thinking of a short city break - Paris or Amsterdam, or Rome or Prague. But having just done 20 mins research on the web it's all so complicated, and so expensive, and the hanging around in airports time is so long, and potential for crises is great, and and and!

We've had a great time on city breaks in the UK cheap as chips (Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, York, London, Newcastle). Is it really going to be worth the effort and expense of going abroad?

go to expedia.co.uk they have great deals and it is all booked through them so no other website involved, we have had 2 great city brekas through them

I started with them and couldn't make the website do what I wanted it to
It kept changing the dates, or sending us from London, or changing the number of passengers!
So I gave up and had a look at flights-only, but that was immensely complex too.

Where did you go and would you recommend it?

ahh they will do that if what you have specified isn't possible... they'll give you the closest alternative.

you can get 3000 nectar points if you book with them before feb too.

where do you want to go from? what are the dates?

We don't do nectar points I think!
I think my problem is we are too flexible. There are lots of cities I'd be interested in.
We would want to go midweek - 16 Feb for 3 or 4 nights. 2 adults plus 2 children (9 and 11) - usually share a room in a hotel.
I don't want to go to Paris, but would be interested in Berlin or Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam, Vienna, Venice, Prague, etc!

Oh, I'm bored now. I can't get these sites to do what I want!

I think I'll mention it to dh and if he likes the idea he'll sort it all out. If not I guess we'll stay in the UK again.

We've done Barcelona, Madrid, Venice, Paris, Florence and NYC with the children on City Breaks.

What is it you are struggling with?

We normally find flights and then just book accomodation. Sometimes we have booked an apt on Holiday-rentals rather than staying in a hotel (when they were very small it was easier to do this).

I would narrow your choice down to two cities and then find the cost of flights and hotels and compare what you are getting.

Tripadvisor is always my first port of call for hotels.

thanks for all the links and suggestions
