any recommendations for hotels at Disneyland Paris?

I'm sure this topic was mentioned sometime last year but have had a mooch and can't find it. Sorry if I'm repeating.
We are going to centreparcs near Paris next July and thought of stopping first either in Paris or at one of the Disney hotels for a few days. Quite fancy a Disney hotel as are sure DD aged 2 1/2 will love it but seem to recall some quite negative feedback about one of the hotels, in particular, one poor lady's DD fell out of what seemed to be a very child unfriendly bed and hurt herself quite badly.
we also need somewhere with parking so imagine that will rule out a lot of the central Paris hotels.
Any suggestions?

We recently stayed at the Explorers Hotel which is a very short shuttle bus trip into the park.
Double beds for parents, kids had a separate room with bunkbeds.
Continental breakfast.
Good swimming pool, with a slide and a flume.
Good soft play area which my two enjoyed.
Hotel quite basic really, but fine and clean.
We really enjoyed it and had great fun.

We stayed at the Newport Bay Club. It was huge but had lovely big rooms, a large swimming pool (deep though) and you just walk to the park.

thanks for that info.
just got a quote online and nearly had a heart attack. Seems that for the disneyland paris hotel (think its their most expensive one) for 5 of us (and baby) in one family room, 3 nights bed and breakfast (assume no park entry etc) they want £2,941! are they mad? Don't want to buy the hotel! On that basis it would be cheaper for us to fly to Orlando, stay at our villa there and see the original Mickey!
Looking at plan B now!

What's your plan B? Can we help?

We booked it all separately through Expedia.

Try some of the shuttle hotels like Explorers or Dream Castle. Although a note of caution we stayed in the Dream Castle and it was fine for the first couple of nights and then a noisy French man and his little boy moved into the room next door and they were loud, we couldn't go to bed until they did which was usually midnight and the little boy was up again by 6.30 - my dc were exhausted!

thanks for that, will look at the Explorers option. With all our tribe I prefer to get recommendations.

I used to work for Bridge Travel years ago (now sadly gone after a dodgy merger with Cresta who are crap). As a reward for hitting all of our sales targets the management sent us to Disney Land Paris in March when it was thick with snow. It was beautiful, but we wasted a whole week when we could have been earning comission, so I wasn't best please. So I took the chance to check out all of the hotels so I'd have some more info when I got back to the office. I grabbed Carol, put on my new winter boots and dragged her around the Disney Hotel, New York, Newport Bay, Sante Fe and Explorers.

Newport is incredible, but very expensive.
New York is also lovely, but not very kids orientated.
Disney Hotel is disgustingly pink and overpriced.
Santa Fe is more like the Disney Ghetto.
Best value for money is the Explorers without a doubt! When we went it was cheaper than the Santa Fe and 10 times better with pool, nice corridors, big rooms and it was all well kept and very clean. There's a swimming pool as well.

If this is your first time at Disney Land Paris, DO NOT buy food in the park. It's revolting.
There are some great restuarants outside though. I recommend the Jungle Cafe for good food.

We stayed at the Disneyland hotel and loved it. It is expensive but closest to the park so you can have a break in the day. We booked a junior suite and it was upgraded to the tinkerbelle suite. There was a lift which went right down to the entrance of the park, my daughter has special needs so this was great for us.

mumoverseas · 14/01/2009 12:55

thanks for that information.
I'm sure the Disneyland hotel is lovely and it sounds like it was perfect for you vjg but I really don't think we can justify just under £3,000 for 3 nights there.
the warnings about the food are useful too. Thanks lookitmyshoes.

i have stayed at the santa fe, newport bay and sequoia lodge hotels.

i would reccommend the sequoia lodge as not as big as newport bay, slightly cheaper and very easy to walk to parks from there.

also reccommend a montana room as they are in the main building, handy when going for breakfast as don't have to walk outside if its raining.

also has very good car park if thinking of self drive.

CaurnieBred · 15/01/2009 15:11

We have just got back from the Sequoia and can echo Pinkkoala's comments. Stayed in the Santa Fe in 1998, so not long after the park had opened and it was a dump then. Wouldn't put my worst enemy in there - esp not in summer with no aircon or pool.

Be warned about breakfast though at any Disney hotel - you get allocated a time to arrive and then you get there to find there are two queues - one for the "on time" people and one for the "not on time people", so basically no real system at all! The earlier you get there the better - when we did 0930 hrs breakfast we had to queue for up to 20 mins for a table; when we did the 0800 hrs breakfast we walked straight in.

If you aren't fussed about staying at a Disney Hotel or one of the "theme" ones outside the park, have a look at the Accor chain of hotels. Ny friends always stay in them - a wee bit futher away so you need to drive to the park but works out cheaper.

We have stayed at the Tulip Hotel in Bussy-st-Georges, It is directly opposite a railway station so you could get to Paris and Disney. We drove to Disney and it took 15 mins.

another vote for explorers- went with mys sister and her family and we had interconnecting rooms with a secret bunkbed room in between. Would also definitely recommend booking everything independantly- works out MUCH cheaper.

We stayed at Newport Bay over New Year.

Hotel was comfortable, big rooms, we had 2 double beds for dh and I and 2 kids. Room was comfortable and clean and everything worked OK.

We didnt have any problems waiting for breakfast but we did tend to go early, bit dissapointed with choice for breakfast, just pastries and cereals.

Please dont bother wasting your money on the food in the park, it really is dire. However, we did book the Princess dinner, and the food was better, but the whole thing was quite expensive.
