I don't understand - I'm trying to book a holiday with 2 rooms but it won't let me because 'children can't be in a room on their own'

But thomson, thomas cook, first choice - none will quote me for a holiday online.

I dont think they will in a hotel, you will have to find one either with adjoining rooms or go for an apartment (which is what we do) so you can all have some privacy

I've booked loads of holidays with adjoining rooms or two roomed family suites.

This year went with Kinder Hotels, booked that all online.

When I go on thomas cook and try that - by putting one adult in one room and an adult and a child in another all the selections just say - 'we don't have that but we have a room for 3'

I don't want a room for 3, I want 2 rooms.

I can't book apartments on Thomas cook.

It can't be that hard - what if 2 people wanted two rooms cos one snored - how hard can it be

What about a studio apt? A 1 bed apt has seperate bedroom. Try another holiday company?

I think an apartment or suite is a better bet, would you really want an 11 year old staying in a room on their own (I wouldnt want dd to at nearly 13).

Why dont you put in 3 adults, I always count dd as an adult in our holiday bookings because its often cheaper than paying a chil supplement in a room, have done this for a few years now, often save about £200 per booking

In most hotels she wouldn't be in a room on her own, she would be in the room next door to the parents room with a door between the 2 rooms.

I don't understand why this is so odd? Are you afraid someone would unlock the door and come in or that your child would unlock the door and go out? This is a genuine query, btw.

Is it not innaproprite for her to be in a hotel room on her own tho? I wouldn't let ds2 who is 13 be on his own in a hotel room. You might get rooms which are not even near each other?

You wouldn't be next to each other unless it was an adjoining room. DH and i had to have a room with 1 child each and we were 6 hotel rooms apart.

Yu would have to specify that you want an adjoining room IIRC.

No i don't think anyone would steal ds2 but at 13 i wouldn't want him in a hotel room on his own.

yes laurie you can, have done this for a while as it works out cheaper.
Just means that dd doesnt get a childrens meal on the plane but at 12 it doesnt matter.

If neither you or your dp are going to share with her though I would just check their policies on this.

Thanks, we have only ever booked and had adjoining rooms (or Family suites, which are similar - usually one room slightly smaller) and I thought that was what folk were baulking at!

You can probably book directly with a hotel with no problem.

Or try Expedia and tell it you want to put one adult in room 1 and one adult and one child in room 2. Then when you get there you can divide between the rooms however you want.

Right, I've got nowhere with thompson - I put in 2 rooms (3 adults) and when I chose a holiday it then came up saying that I could only have a twin room which slept 3 adults.

The only way she would be allowed to come (by social services) is if she was in her own bedroom - yes, an apartment with seperate bedrooms would be ideal. I'm not worried about her wandering off - she sleeps in her own room at our house. It would not suddenly be right for her to start sharing a bedroom with us on holiday (and it's not allowed obviously).

I haven't done this before - why can't I find apartments. I've had a search for villas but they are 2500 for the week (too much).

right, I have just tried thomas cook and thompson.

If I choose first week in august, 3 people (3 adults), 2 rooms, self catering, spain or greece.

I then get a load of choices - say I pick one, it then takes me to a page where it has one bed apartment (will not offer me a two-bed) or a studio, or hotel rooms.

I want a 2 bed apartment - not one with the bed in the living area.

I can recommend a complex that you can book directly in Nerja Spain. They are two bedroom apartments. We went last year. You then book the flight separatly.
