We are on the brink of booking to go in March but we are struggling to pick a hotel. We are torn between the 4 key New Yorker and the 3 key Newport Bay club. The Newport seems more child friendly, buffet, indoor pool with picture of children in it etc. But the NewYorker does have that extra key.

Is the New Yorker child friendly? Does one less key make a difference to the Newport?

Also can you use the facilities and restaurants of the other hotels on the site even if you aren't staying in it? (I wonder specifically about the ice rink at the New Yorker)

Many thanks
Happy New Year

PS is there always big parades on?

We stayed at the Newport and it was fine. The food was good, and there was an indoor pool.

The place was absolutely enormous though.

I think it is safe to say that all Disney places are child-friendly.

Thank you. Yes i did think that but the New Yorker stating it was ideal for couples and friends threw us a bit.

Cheers

We got back last Saturday and it was FREEZING when we were there! Poor ds's lips went blue from the cold.
I can recommend this book to buy.....
www.amazon.co.uk/Brits-Guide-Disneyland-Resort-2008-2009/dp/0572034059/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qi d=1230997920&sr=8-3

The food is nearly all burgers/chicken nuggets etc.........ds's idea of heaven but not mine!!

Tip: don't call it Eurodisney! Apparently, it's Disneyland Paris, doncha know? Or so I was told, endlessly, when I posted on some DLP forums for advice when we went

Seriously, we stayed in the Sequoia - no idea how many keys but DS loved the swimming pool and the hotel restaurant was child friendly and really useful - food in the Village and the park itself expensive and busy.

We didn't try to use facilities of any other hotels but don't think that's likely to be possible.

DS loved the parades - I think they're on all year round.

We went in the October week and it was fab. Very similar weather to here though so dont go looking for a sunny holiday. We actually stayed in a campsite about 30 minutes from disneyland resort. It was a good holiday and would dearly love to have the money to go back again this year and next and next and next.

slayerette · 03/01/2009 16:10

Yes - to support lottie's point, that was the other thing we liked about the hotel restaurant - child-friendly options but lovely adult meals too.

It does get very cold - pack thermals if you're going in March. Book breakfast in the park - it doesn't cost any extra and means you can be first in the queues for the popular rides before the gates open for day visitors. Get Fastpasses for things like the Buzz Lightyear ride - look for the machine near the entrance to the ride, print out tickets and then return to the ride at the time on your ticket. You then bypass the general queue and go through much more quickly.

When we were there some of the characters did a general walkabout near the It's A Small World ride early in the day - good place to get quick photos without having to queue.

We went last March (it was icy cold be prepared!) and stayed in the Newport and it was lovely.

The best tip someone gave me was to book breakfast in the park. The queue for breakfast at the hotel is large, having it in the p[ark means you choose your time, get in early and the park breakfasts are fantastic, even bread rolls with ham, cheese etc (take a plastic bag and put up a packed lunch as food insside the artk is very expensive)

slayerette · 03/01/2009 16:14

Ooh yes, don't pay for lunch. We made up rolls like islandofsodor did.

jakesmum05 · 04/01/2009 16:56

Thank you all loads. Luckily we don't really like the sun and heat so arctic weather should be fine for us.

The advice about the park breakfast and fast passes is very helpful, not even something i would have thought about.

Good times, i'm really excited now.

I know about the Disneyland Paris bit even my DS calls it that but it was always Eurodisney when it first opened wasn't it.....tut, they're always changing stuff.....i still call snickers marathons and starbursts opal fruits. i will try and remember when we go.

Thanks again guys.

Happy New Year

Oh, another tip.

If you have any Disney dress up costumes take them with you, not so relevant for boys but things like Buzz Lightyear etc. In fact if you havn't got any buy one now and take it with you. ALL the kids are wearing them round the hotel (and some inthe park despite arctic weather) and they are mega pricey over there. Think £60 for a princess dress.

Leslaki · 04/01/2009 22:59

We've staye in Newport bay twice and it was fab - friend has done that and New yrok and thingks New York only got extra key cos it's closer to the resort. We quirte liked wlak round he lake!! This year I'm taking DC on my own (now a single mum) and we're staying at a campsite outside DLP so that'll be a bit different to newport bay! can def recommend making up sarnies in morning! And eat them while watching the Lion king if it's raining!!!

OneLieIn · 04/01/2009 23:24

We went recently and agree about thermals. Sort out your fast pass rides quickly

We stayed at the Davey Crockett ranch which was lovely for self catering with all of the facilities and was sooooo quiet

Food in Disney itself was pretty crap tbh so I would make sarnies
