Hello,

Have come up with the over romantic idea (optimistic as we have a 2 and a 9 year old!)of renting a villa in Tuscany in the spring. Can anyone suggest anywhere or a suitable region? Large Italian ice creams offered in reward!

We live in Italy, there's loads of places to rent ound here. Were in Marche, nr Fano. Or perhaps an agroturimso. These are like bed and breakfast places but on farms so lots of space around. We have one up the road, its all antic and traditional and has a pool. You can eat there at night as well. (From memory they charge about 40euro a night in high season). I think that for the room not the person. I can check if you want.

Thanks for that...nice to hear from a local. Prefering a villa as 2 year old up in the night frequently so easier to pace around without disturbing anybody!!! Any suggestions gratefully received.

Try Italy Magazine website. They have loads of agencies that have villas etc for holiday rental.

hmmm ggirl, a friend of mine said the same thing but then it was early october. i'm going in may, so will probably be too cold for us too!

happychappy · 04/01/2009 12:05

Generally the pools all open 1st June because the weathers a bit cold and unrealiable before that. Perhaps save your money on the pool thing.

brimfull · 04/01/2009 15:48

we were there in august but it had apparently been a cool summer .

giantkatestacks · 04/01/2009 15:58

we had a cracking villa in umbria from ownersdirect last august...own pool and three beds and came in for 800euros...might not be so suitable for a 2 year old cos of steps though so that could limit you a bit...oh and the pool was unheated.

could you look at a trulli in puglia instead - further south so warmer, served by cheap airlines and lots of choice on ownersdirect...

brimfull · 04/01/2009 16:06

giantkate-was the pool cold?Too cold for wimpy child?

giantkatestacks · 04/01/2009 16:08

my wimpy 5yo was fine (in a cheap wetsuit from sainsburys) I however was not...

brimfull · 04/01/2009 16:13

ah right
see it's putting us off going to tuscany again with children as all they want is pool really.
love italy though so may look into puglia

giantkatestacks · 04/01/2009 16:22

let me know if you find anything fantastic - am thinking about 2010 already (2009 being used up with compulsory inlaw holidays grr)

sellorrenovate · 04/01/2009 18:24

I highly recommend Le Marche rather than Tuscany. We rented this in 2007 www.le-marche-explorer.com/property_details.php?name=azienda_cerqueto&PHPSESSID=81afa0be9e19d9825ea5 b8b87ff9dd81 which was very rural (white road & farm drive) with views to die for. Pool not fenced but on plus side has full width steps at shallow end so easy for little ones to get in/out.

sellorrenovate · 04/01/2009 18:36

ahh, just read full thread. Not sure pool was heated.,,but still think Le Marche is great (fly to Ancona)

brimfull · 04/01/2009 20:17

sellorrenovate-does that mean it was warm enough to swim in?
apartments look lovely.

sellorrenovate · 05/01/2009 17:27

yes it was warm enough to swim in in the last week in Aug, not so sure it would be as warm in the spring

sellorrenovate · 05/01/2009 17:29

ggirl - I've had this bookmarked for a future visit www.villasanraffaello.com/index.php

happychappy · 05/01/2009 19:35

That villas a bit further south than us. San Ginestro, in the Sibilini mountains (very beaufully) so is inland and therefore generally a bit colder that the coast. From June the pool will be fine but before a bit iffy. Good point is that in the spring very few mosquitos, always an advantage. I love the spring but don't swim, mores the point neither do my kids. In fact last April/May we still had the fires going in the evening. The year before last was much warmer than this but we still didn't go swimming in May (sorry my DH did with my sister for a bet; soon got out again though).

Puglia; I went years again, really beautiful and warmer than here. Don't know it very well though. I'd love to go and stay in a Trulli, very cute and quaint.

We stayed herein the first week of Sept last year. It was wonderful - the Sodi apartment had the most incredible view out of the kitchen/dining room window. Our 4 yr old shared the pool with 2 slightly older kids (skiving off the 1st week of school)every afternoon and absolutely loved it. Short drive from Pisa airport and within driving distance for day trips to Siena, S.G, Lucca, etc - definitely recommended! Our 18 mth old floated in her toddler float
