Dr Who exhibition in Cardiff - have you been?

Would you recommend it?

What else did you do/could you do? Dh says it is near the quay but as I have never been to Cardiff before, that does not really mean much to me. He thinks there would be places to eat (child friendly) etc.

Anyone?

You cn go on the big wheel at winter wonderland if you are brave enough and have some mulled wine, but avoind the rip off funfair!
Hope yo have a lovley day, i live near Cardiff and love it!

thanks for all the suggestions here. We went to Cardiff today (a little late, but....) and had a nice lunch in Bella Italia next to the Dr Who exhibition and then set off for the exhibition itself at 3:40. Guess what? It shut at 3 today! So, given it was minus 2 out and we didn't fancy walking around in that, we got back into the car and drove home. Typical balls up from DG's family. Still, another time maybe?

Ahh, never mind. Actually, it's best to go to Cardiff Bay in the summer as you can have a nice wander around and just chill near the "hub" fountain and my favourite is going for a boat trip around the bay and back again.
I find it much more relaxing to catch a train from Bristol Parkway and that gets into Cardiff Central in about 35 mins, then walk out the back way of the station (car park), cross the road by the bridge and then catch the bendy bus that goes to the bay.
No long driving, bridge tolls and petrol to pay, but then my DDs are still small.

Train would be nice idea but probably too expensive with my four kids. LOL at chilling out. We did lots of that today! Not the nice kind though!

oh DG i thought of you yesterday. i went to the cinema (next door to the dr who exhibition) at 4pm and saw it was shut. I hoped you hadnt missed it! Thats VERY annoying. Glad you had a good meal though...

Doodle2U · 01/01/2009 13:03

We went to the one in Liverpool yesterday (Spaceport at Seacombe).

It was OK.

DD aged 5 was the biggest surprise - didn't realise just how much Dr Who trivia she'd absorbed!

LadyLauraStandish · 01/01/2009 13:05

DG, if your kids are big Dr Who fans they will enjoy spotting places they've seen in the series!

Do try and go again. We made a weekend break out of it and visited Techniquest too. It was great.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/01/2009 14:39

DirtyGertie, you probably walked right past us as we stood outside the cinema and further down by the doors out for some time. We were debating going to the cinema but the only thing that was suitable for the children (Madagascar 2) we have seen already. The kids wanted to see Bedtime Stories but that didn't start until 6:30. What did you see?

You couldnd't miss us as I was wearing a silly pale blue hat and was saying loudly to ds2 "No we are not going bowling. It is my birthday not yours!" We are a very loud family at the best of times.

LadyLaura, ds1 did think he saw a familiar location (near to the Welsh assembly?) I don't watch it enough to know, but I would probably recognise the bit in Torchwood where the lift comes up.

Techniquest was open for another hour when we found it but my children said no the idea - miserable lot.

we saw the 4pm showing of madagascar2! And now you come to mention it i was being very judgey of a loud, argumentative english family wearing silly hats

DumbledoresGirl · 01/01/2009 17:41

I was about to say, What nationality are you then? but I will save it for The Mumsnet Stupid Comment of the Year Award!

Still find it odd to be the foreigner in my own back yard so to speak (only lived near Wales for 4 years!!)

What did you think of Madagascar 2? We thought it was rubbish.

ah, im a bit of a mixed breed. Born in wales but 3/4 irish, 1/4 english. Find it very confusing as to who to cheer in the 5 nations

oh i really enjoyed madagscar! But im easily pleased. Just wanted to get out of the house away from a tantruming toddler and grumpy dh - i would have sat through any old shite!
