Can anyone fill me in on the camping facilities at Eurocamp sites?

Thinking about booking a ready-erected tent at the Ile de Re Interlude site.

I am not a Camper usually and just want to know what I might be letting myself in for.

Where does one make one's toilet?
Where does one wash (oneself, small people who might be in the vicinity, cutlery, etc)
Does it get blimming hot?
Are the beds reasonably comfortable?
Where do you leave passports, Travellers Cheques and so on?

I thank you.

Have done KeyCamp, which I gather is pretty much the same thing.

One toilets etc in the quite nice and clean communal toilets. Plenty of them about.
Washing - again plenty of clean shower blocks, and big sinks for dishwashing. All quite jolly as you rinse cutlery next to friendly Germans.
Beds in the tents are not comfortable in the slightest bit, but hey, that's camping for you.
Passports etc - it had never occurred to me to leave them anywhere. We must have carried them around. I suppose there must be a safe or something in the Office bit.

toilet in tent = use a bucket for night time emergencies. all other times use toilet block. usually very clean.
wash. self in shower block. most sites have family bathrooms or child sized baths you can use. (for kids obviously)
cutlery. wash at the pot wash facilites, usually located at rear of wash/shower block.
hot, depends on time of year. only time i have been too hot in a tent was in spain.
beds are reasonable.drink plently of wine.
passports, either in safety deposit box located in main campsite reception, which you can hire, or in locked glove box of car.
hth?

holidaywonk · 28/12/2008 17:49

Thank you both

at 'drink plenty of wine'. Shame, I'm a Real Princess when it comes to uncomfortable beds.

Aghast at 'bucket'

Kids love this sort of thing, don't they?

Anyway thank you, very helpful!

lol @ 'ready-erected tent'. Yeah, you're talking Eurocamp, of course it's ready -erected. You poove.

Why don't you upgrade and book one of their statics? Personal toilet and shower included.

poinsettydog · 28/12/2008 18:08

Also, check different companies because lots of companies use the same sites but some will be cheaper than others.

holidaywonk · 28/12/2008 18:09

I WOULD, I WOULD

For some reason I can't get a static at this site for longer than a week. I think the French have booked them all up throughout August.

Forget Eurocamp. Go to Center Parks instead. Believe me, I've done both and will nevr, EVER, EVER EVER EVER do EC again shudder

holidaywonk · 28/12/2008 18:14

Really, ilove? Why? I've done static Eurocamp before and really enjoyed it.

Do they do CentreParcs in France?

OP posts:
poinsettydog · 28/12/2008 18:17

wow, you can't book a static for august? You wou;dn't consider another site?

ilove · 28/12/2008 18:17

We did CP in Germany and EC in Austria. EC was AWFUL, dirty, awful beds, no room despite upgrading to the most expensive/biggest accomodation, no facilities, nothing advertised for that site in the brochure was there, water was FREEEEEEEEEEEEZING, staff were inept, etc etc etc

holidaywonk · 28/12/2008 18:20

pointy, I can get a static but only for a week, and I'd rather go for two weeks in a tent (I think).

ilove - blimey, sounds bad! The Eurocamp I went to before was in the Dordogne, and was lovely. I guess it's all down to how the site is managed (as Eurocamp just block-book pitches on other people's sites). I've checked out the Interlude site on here and lots of people say it's a good one. (Thanks for the info though.)

We've been to a couple of keycamp sites - one in the vendee and one on the cote d'azur, and both were very well set up, clean etc.

I'd recommend looking at the keycamp site, and seeing what's available on the dates that you want.

holidaywonk · 28/12/2008 19:11

Thanks sunnygirl - my heart's set on Ile de Re and Keycamp don't have a site there. But will bear them in mind for future holidays.

Are you a Camper, pointy?

agasht at bucket, it's no different from squatting over a hole the french have in their toilettes... (only joking..they hace regular toilets too..

poinsettydog · 29/12/2008 18:31

I am not a camper, no, wonks.

We had a static caravan hol on one of these eurocampy sites in France 18 months ago. We loved it.

I don't think I am the roughing-it type. Although a friend of mine has been wigwamming and we are going to go wigwamming with them - en famille - next spring. I will get all durty and grubby and I weill love it.

holidaywonk · 29/12/2008 19:59

No, didn't have you down as a camper. Wigwamming sounds good. These things are always more fun in groups aren't they? Then the children can amuse each other while the adults get drunk.

Anyway thank you to everyone for the info. I think we're going to risk it. DP reckons I'll hate it, but I'm prepared to give it a go...
