Daft question about taking liquid restrictions and main luggage

I'm flying to Venice at the weekend and having not been on holiday for 11 years am trying to understand the restrictions. I'm with easyjet which says:

Liquids in hand baggage are subject to the following government-imposed restrictions:

The liquid is in a container with a maximum volume of 100ml
All liquid containers meeting the maximum volume of 100ml can be fitted comfortably into a transparent, re-sealable 1 litre plastic bag, measuring 20cmx20cm.
The plastic bag should be presented separately at security

Does that mean I can put shampoo, wrinkle serum etc. in my main luggage to avoid this?

What appalling grammar {blush]
Also forgot to ask if small rucksacks are ok for hand luggage for the children? (under 55 x 40 x 20cm)

Yes - put as much liquid/gel/paste in your main luggage as possible. Remember you can't take drinks through.

If the children have their own tickets, then a small rucksac will be fine

AMIStletoekiss · 18/12/2008 13:21

Yes you can put any (reasonable!) amount of liquids in your main luggage - they are only worried about you taking poisons and explosives into the body of the plane and causing a security problem during the flight.

Your airline should tell you what hand luggage they allow you - it varies a lot, but small rucksacks are generally fine.

Yes, lob it all in your case. No worries at all then about it potentially being confiscated.

Children are fine to have their own bags as hand luggage.

Oh fab, thank you oh wise mumsnetters

Cmotdibblr - 'If the children have their own tickets, then a small rucksac will be fine' I just have a number printed out for all of us but we have 4 seats booked, they're 9 and 5

I think if they have a seat then they have a luggage allowance.

cmotdibbler · 18/12/2008 13:34

That's ok then - I was just trying to say that if they were under 2, and were travelling as an infant in arms, they don't get to take any hand luggage

Simplysally · 18/12/2008 13:36

You only need one bag under those measurements to get through security - by the time you totter onto the plane, you can sprout as many bags/liquids (bought post-security) as you like. You will have to put the toiletry plastic bag in the security tray to be x-rayed separately along with your coat, possibly shoes and anything metal.

I think you are allowed up to 10 clear bags per person as well.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/12/2008 13:36

If they're travelling as a babe in arms then they are usually allowed a changing bag but that's not a worry for you Barking.

Have a great time

Thanks I can't wait.
I'm very jumpy, flitting about trying to remember everything (too tired to make lists these days they only get lost!),
The children don't know until they get to the airport I want it to be a surprise.
I hope they enjoy it....my mum thinks I'm cruel and should have taken them to Lapland

another question - can I take food on the plane for the children, snacky stuff, dried fruit etc?

OP posts:
PortAndStilton · 19/12/2008 09:42

Yes.

AMIStletoekiss · 19/12/2008 09:45

Yes, there's no restriction on solid food, but personally I'd stick to stuff that is sealed up in a packet so there's no question of what it is.

Barking · 19/12/2008 09:47

thank you for answering my daft flying questions.
Right I'd better start getting everyone in the car.
They still think they're going to school!
