My dad is over from the states on business for the weekend and we're going out for the day on saturday but don't know where!

We live in bracknell but can travel for about an hour i'd say.

did think about natural history museum as they have outdoor rink but it's quite expensive!

any other suggestions please?

We did the Duck Tour a few weeks ago with friends who were visiting form Leeds and DD who is 5.6 and DS who is 3.7. DD loved it, although was a little scared when it went into the water . DS sat quite happily, didn't hold the same interest for him but he didn't kick up a fuss or anything. The tour guide was fab, very funny and dry sense of humour but with heaps of information about London. Not a cheap trip but well worth the money I thought.

Pressed post instead of preview. Was also going to suggest The Science Museum. Went in October and both of mine had a superb time, loads to do for that age group. Its free to get in although there are some bits to pay for once inside if you want to go into the 3D cinema etc. If you end up doing that, CAT me as I have got discount vouchers for the stuff you have to pay for at Science Museum. Will be more than willing to send them to you.

thanks for the current suggestions.
duck tours looks fab but bit dear.
legoland is shut for winter
blenhiem - not sure dd would get much from it yet
science museum - only just been!

any more please? looking for xmassy things really!

See if Harrods/Selfridges have any tickets left to see FC? Trip over to Greenwich by boat and then Maritime Museum?

abear · 08/12/2008 13:45

We did Santa Train at Spa VAlley Railway in Tunbridge Wells yesterday which was a huge success, combined with lunch at Pantiles, where there was live music outside - very Christamssy but may be too far from Bracknell

pregapuss · 08/12/2008 13:46

I agree you could go and see a santa somewhere? Or the zoo but a bit cold!

What about the London Aquarium?

Hampton Court or Kew? you can get to Kew easily from Bracknell on the train

thatwasfun · 08/12/2008 14:00

If you get a half decent day weather wise the best day out for a 4yo in London is completely free (apart from travel)

You get to ride on the tube IN A TUNNEL, then you go on a BIG RED BUS. Then you can go and see the BOATS on the river and even see trains CROSSING the river on bridges. You can walk across bridges and look at the WATER, maybe if you've been good, you'll be treated to a RIDE on a river bus. You can see Big Ben that you recognise from the TELLY , and if you walk across Tower Bridge you can put one foot either side of the OPENING and wonder about what might happen if it opened!!!!

Then if you've got any energy left, you can get back on the tube and see the lights at Oxford Street, maybe go to the world's largest TOY shop.....(does it still qualify?)

No need to pay for attractions for a 4YO and Grandad becomes a 4 YO again when faced with such enthusiasm.

How about Birdworld near Farnham? They have a santa grotto there now too. Not been myself recently but might go this weekend if not too cold!

Intech - Indoor Science Centre, Winchester
Much like Lookout (which your 4 year old probably know's well, being local) but also has a Planetarium.

There's the Frost Fair on at the southbank on Friday and Saturday with lots of events and Husky dogs. If it's a sunny day, then it is lovely to have a festive stroll by the river. Also how about carol singing in Trafalgar square, ice skating at Somerset House?

eleanorsmum · 09/12/2008 11:03
