Via Singapore through London.

Would you go at 11.15 am (UK time) and arrive at 08.00 local time or

21.45 (UK time) and arrive 17.45 local time?

How do you deal with jetlag and sleep with a 8 month old?

Next!

Water abroad - I know in Oz it is safe boiled but is water in Singapore safe for formula once boiled?

Thank you

i would do the first.
simply because I am crap at sleeping on planes, and would be even worse with a baby.
plus, the stop in singapore, if it isn't overnight, will be awful because it'll be the middle of (your) night.

Are you going straight through?
I would go with the later flight and arrival.

My two tend to have a grumpy couple of days and are then fine. We go straight into Aus time when we arrive (but perhaps a little extra nap time for the first couple of days)

I haven't been to singapore so I don't know about the water (I didn't boil after 6 months anyway)

We're having 5 nights in Singapore first.

I thought the first flight as if he sleeps most of the way there then we have most of the day to tire him out whereas with the night flight if he sleeps most of the way there he'll have trouble sleeping when we get to the hotel because although it is night time again he will think it is day time!

Or should we do the stopover enroute home and just get to Perth?

I would go for the early landing; if you go for the late one and are delayed or have a long journey in Oz once you are there, it makes for a very long day.

I just asked dh about Singapore water and he says it is a very clean country so the water seemed ok, but he generally drank bottled water. However the water is purifed there by reverse osmosis (i.e seawater turned into drinking water) so it the water can taste slightly salty; that may make your mind up!

I flew to Sydney with ds when he was 11 months; he slept most of the way there but still did not adjust to the time zone I think the time you fly has very little effect on them!

Are you thinking of leaving London at 21.45 and arriving in Singapore at 17.45?. If this is indeed the case I'd go for that option. This is for 2 reasons; the earlier flight will require you to be at the airport far earlier for checking in and clearing security. (Also Heathrow airport later in the evening is a lot quieter). Also arriving into Changi at 17.45 will mean you can sleep a couple of hours later.

We stopped over at Singapore both ways for a couple of days both ways - it does break up that journey.

Water in Singapore is fine, had no problems at all with the tap water. Bottled water is widely available.

If you can do a stopover I would suggest doing so both ways. Most of the flights back from Changi to London leaves very late in the evening (around 11pm) getting back into Heathrow at around 5am. I dreaded that particular flight back but actually suffered no real tiredness from it.

I would go with the later option too much better for them to sleep most of the flight and then you can just stay up a bit later when you get there
good luck we are going next fri with our two

jojoisamum · 03/12/2008 09:42

But surely if we go for the later flight not only will we as adults be knackered if he sleeps all the way there he'll then be up for 12 hours when we want to sleep or am I getting in wrong? When we land he will think it is the start of a new day?

BTW we will be going from Edinburgh so no need to get through crowds and security in London as we will do it at much quieter Edinburgh!
