Dull dilemma - going away, 2 kids under 4 - take a double buggy or single(s)?

Back in July we tried with just one single buggy but ended up buying a second single as my older child refused to walk and we were doing a lot of sightseeing

We will be doing less walking on this trip but still have to deal with the airport and possibly a full day in NYC

Any thoughts?

My 3 yr old twins share a single mothercare basic £15 pushchair every day. They alternate walking and if both are tired one sits on the very top bit on a folded up coat or something and holds on tight! It's probably very dangerous, but my double snapped and I can't afford another one!

I would take 2. Holidays always seem to involve lots more walking than normal. I found 2 buggies very useful at around 6pm to bedtime, if out for dinner/stroll.

2 buggies would mean you have the option to use 1 and leave 1 in hotel, as and when required.

2 buggies = kids less tired = less whining

KnickKnack · 01/12/2008 21:57

or do as lucky says! although that option still has whinge potential ;)

I would take 2 as well. That way, you can separate if needs be, eg if one of you wants to pop in a shop with 1 DC, and other wants to stay outside cos the younger DC is having a strop, it makes it a bit easier. Or if you have an argument with your DP/DH, YOU can walk off in a strop with one of 'em.

Plus it's just less cumbersome to push a single each than a big double.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/12/2008 22:02

Oh, and if one gets lost in transit, at least you have the other.

Ever the optimist......

KnickKnack · 01/12/2008 22:06

and its much easier to bung everything in a buggy than carry it around all day...stuff for kids/drinks/shopping etc

Thanks, just weighing up the challenge of pushing two buggies round the airport solo (DH will have luggage trolley)

fold one up and put it on the luggage trolley.

let 1 kid walk, and 1 have pushchair.
Although they might both want to stretch their legs after long flight?

luckylady74 · 01/12/2008 22:20

put one child on the luggage trolley - no I'm not very health and safety minded!

You can get clips that make two single buggies into a double - my friend used them when they went on holiday with her twins and toddler

TheBlonde · 02/12/2008 11:03

thanks, yes I think I've seen those somewhere

Has anyone tried the clips?
