best place to sit on the plane?

hi
I'm flying to and back from America soon (at about 5 and a half months) and am about to pick my seats online
where is the quietest place to sit with the least vibration and least turbulence?
thanks

always sit at the back imo

There is a website which shows you the best seating - you select the airline and the type of aircraft ...

here?

www.seatguru.com
I love the site.
I have been travelling with this advice fro years. Never been wrong so far.

Infront of the engines if possible (they are the things that make the noise ), also keep away from the galley, and lavatories as you get lots of people traffic and noise and food trollies moving in and out (at night this can wake you up).

You will be able to request bulkhead seats if you have an infant on your booking. What/who is 5 1/2 months?

Isle seat if you are on your own (easier to get in and out) and closer to the back if you can't get forward seats.

If you are prone to colds or have allergies- don't sit at the back! The A/c always vents here, and I was extremely ill when we arrived in Bali after 20 hours flying.

SalBySea · 24/11/2008 13:33

sorry, I meant I'll be 5 and a half months pregnant, not travelling with a baby.

the return flight is at night so thanks eachpeachpearmum, I'll be staying away from the vents.

I'll check out the sites recommended here - thank you everyone

I would get a doctors certificate to say you are fit to fly just incase. Not normally required by the airlines, but I would for long haul, just to cover yourself with your holiday insurance company, and then I would make sure your travel insurance does provide adequate cover as you are pregnant and for some reasons are unable to fly. This way you can get your money back if for medical reasons you can't. Long haul is not cheap after all.

I already took out second travel insurance because my annual policy no longer covers me (I think only covering till 18 weeks is unreasonable but whatever) so I made sure that my single trip cover is adequate

I was told that I dont need a certificate at this stage in pregnancy?

I also told a friend who works for the airline that I'll be flying then and she had no concerns?

surely I'm covered!

Yes it sounds like it. All I am saying is make sure if you need to cancel for medical reasons your policy covers pregnancy. As you say, your original one only went up to 18 weeks and I agree totally unreasonable time clause. I am sure all will be fine, but I just like to have all the boxes ticked before I travel. That's all.

superloopy · 25/11/2008 06:04

I was going to suggest in first class up the front!!

Waltzywotzy · 26/11/2008 11:24

I was going to suggest inside the cabin
and if you can go left on entering, even better.

mumoverseas · 26/11/2008 16:33

You may need a certificate ref your fitness to fly during pregnancy depending on which airline you are flying with. I flew back to the UK just over a week ago when I was 25 weeks and although technically the airline shouldn't have needed a letter until I was 30 weeks, I kept getting asked for a letter. This was with BMI. Another friend got questioned quite a few times with Emirates at 24 weeks. I guess it depends how large you are but to be on the safe side, I'd get a doctors letter as it gets a bit annoying when you are asked for the fourth or fifth time!

MrsHappy · 26/11/2008 16:37

Avoid the back at all costs.
The further back you are the more you feel turbulence and I have managed to convince myself that the air is better further forward! Get an aisle seat since you might need to go to the loo a fair bit.
Do get a letter from your Dr if you are showing - airline staff are not able to tell by looking at you how pg you are and so it is sensible to have something confirming your dates.
