Singapore airlines and child car seat

Has anyone taken a car seat on singapore airlines? Have spoken to them several times but not getting anywhere with what is and isnt allowed. The dimensions we were given for what fits in their seats don't correlate with any car seat that exists....Thinking of taking the Britax Freeway as it seems to have been recommended by lots of people who have flown on other airlines. Any advice most welcome....

Not taken a car seat on singapore airlines, but did on british airways from Aust to Eng. It did seem to help ds sleep seeing as he was in something familiar... but the problem was that when the people in front put their chair back the back of their chair went right up to the carseat, so his legs got squashed up. plus when the food came around the food table wouldnt go down cause the chair made ds' lap sit up too high. Id say your car seat would fit, mine is pretty massive and all airline seats seem to pretty much the same size these days. Some airlines will supply child seats though... and some will only let you use theirs.
Ohh and also, although he slept ok in his seat, he was sitting up right the whole time, cause there wasnt enough room for the carseat to recline like its made to do, but also putting the actual plane seat back did nothing cause the car seat just stayed upright anyways.
Hope that is of some help... and makes sense

Could you not request a bassinet? We've flown with Singers alot and they will really look after you with the dc's.

Hi SazzlesA, No, he was not quite 2 (though he was the size of a over two yr old) when we came over, but he was on a over 2s ticket as I wanted guantee that he was going to get his own seat. there was no way I was having him on my lap for that amount of time. BA are pretty good with the car seats, have a chat to them bout it, if hes only months over 2 they may let you take it on anyways.

We took DS's Maxi Cosi Priori on Singapore Airlines, I think pretty much any standard car seat would fit. On the way back we kept hitting turbulance and having the seat belt sign put on. The poor family across the aisle from us had to keep lifting their little DD out of the bassinet and she would wake up and scream and thrash around, while DS just slept soundly in his car seat.

Ooo SazzlesA traveling that far with two youngens... good luck.
Dunno if you have travelled with them before on a plane, but just let ya know in case, you can take the buggy up to the gate with you and they will take it off you as your boarding though the gate and put it under the plane with all the rest of the luggage. Though you have to collect it at the normal place you collect your luggage at the other end.
And get there early, cause traveling with kids means you get to board first, but you have to be there cause they only give you a few seconds to jump infront of everyone else.
I got my fingers crossed for you, hope you have a great holiday

I flew back from oz just behind bassinets and bulkheads. (without kids btw)
Therezwas woman with 3yr old and 18mth and the staff were incredible with her and the others esp mums doing solo journeys
The babies were all amazi g imo and slept and travelled well.
That was Singapore airlines too

Shayden · 20/11/2008 21:37

Couldnt agree more, hosties are awsome with kids on flights and cant do enough for them. Its almost like you have your own personal hosties.
All the kids on my flight travelled really well, though they have their very own tv right infront of their face, food and drink brought to them really regularly and all the attention in the world. What could they possibly have to complain about

Thanks so much everyone for all that helpful advice. Fingers crossed the flights will be fine - sounds like Sing Air are fantastic with babies. I think we'll try the car seat and if it is a nightmare in terms of the seats in front etc I suppose we can put it in the hold at Singapore and do the next leg without it. Have good weekends.

They will probably check you into bulkhead seats even if you are not using a bassinet, that's what they did with us.

Bran - could you possibly tell me the exact model of your Maxi Cosi? and also...just checking...were you in economy on singapore airlines? Am assuming it must have been the maxi cosi priori xp..?
