Can't advise on anywhere to stay as I live here but as far as things to do are concerned the things that immediately spring to mind are - a ghost tour/tour of the underground closes (loads of them - google about for which is best), Dynamic earth, Leith waterworld (flumes, wave machine etc etc - only open Friday, Sat, Sunday), walk up Arthur Seat (if you're feeling energetic and weather ok) - umm - will think some more... What sort of things do you like to do?

DH will do most of the "touring" as for my 40th he bought me a day at the Sheraton SPA !!
SO whilst I am being papmered - they like science museum types of things .... touchy feely stuff.

Not sure about what type of accomodation you are after but there is a Travel Inn thingy on Morrison Street, very central and just around the corner from the Sheraton.

That's for the museum on chamber street - they have some good one off exhibitions and buttons to press etc. It connects right through to the older museum which specialises in freaky stuffed tigers/whale skeletons etc. Both are free.

Fimbo - I pasted the url into the post then pasted the bit saying how to do it (on our right) then re-pasted the url into the url gap. Is that clear as mud? Can't believe it worked. This has made my week ! .

hi crystaltips, i have stayed at James Court apartments a few times now ( can't do links either-sorry I am wick)The apartments are right beside the Castle on the Royal mile so couldn't be handier) can easily walk to castle Dynamic earth and ahahaha joke shop(99 West Bow) (kids will love it)Also there are a few takeaways close by if you don't want to cook every night like me. Do the James Court apts only have 1 bedroom? So I couldn't stay in one with a 4 yr old, 2 yr old and 7 month old?

We had an apt with one bedroom with 2 single beds and a large living room with a double bed in the corner. also had a well equipped kitchen and separate bathroom. Don't know if you can get bigger ones. my only reservation about the place was the stone spiral staircase to the rooms- if you have loads of stuff and the apartment is on the 5th floor you'd need to be fit. Does have a lovely Harry potter gothic feel about it tho'.

And it's not that expensive really at £50 a night - only like a Travel Inn. Is that really right?!
