Can't advise on anywhere to stay as I live here but as far as things to do are concerned the things that immediately spring to mind are - a ghost tour/tour of the underground closes (loads of them - google about for which is best), Dynamic earth, Leith waterworld (flumes, wave machine etc etc - only open Friday, Sat, Sunday), walk up Arthur Seat (if you're feeling energetic and weather ok) - umm - will think some more... What sort of things do you like to do?

crystaltips · 16/03/2005 20:33

DH will do most of the "touring" as for my 40th he bought me a day at the Sheraton SPA !!
SO whilst I am being papmered - they like science museum types of things .... touchy feely stuff.

In that case def check out Dynamic Earth and also the New Museum of Scotland on Chamber's Street. Will see if I can post some links later but bath is running at the moment - I'm due some 'papmering' myself .

Fimbo · 16/03/2005 20:46

www.dynamicearth.co.uk/

This is the link for Dynamic Earth which I can also recommend.

I am now jumping up and down with joy as it is my first link I have done successfully and I am having a crap week!!

Fimbo · 16/03/2005 20:48

Bum its not working, but you have the web address now!!

Gomez · 16/03/2005 20:50

Not sure about what type of accomodation you are after but there is a Travel Inn thingy on Morrison Street, very central and just around the corner from the Sheraton.

HTH

Gomez · 16/03/2005 20:51

Oops also meant to mention the Museum of Childhood on the Royal Mile and Camera Obscura next to the Castle.

zippy539 · 16/03/2005 20:53

dynamic earth

If that works I will be over the moon for exactly the same reasons as Fimbo

zippy539 · 16/03/2005 20:54

Yayyy!!! It works! Flushed with success, I'm off to find the address for the other museum ...

tamum · 16/03/2005 20:56

When are you coming? If it's in April the Science Festival will be on and there'll be oodles for your kids to do. Tell us more about what kind of place you want to stay in and I'll have a think.

Fimbo · 16/03/2005 20:57

Right Zippy, please explain to me how you did it!

zippy539 · 16/03/2005 20:59

description

That's for the museum on chamber street - they have some good one off exhibitions and buttons to press etc. It connects right through to the older museum which specialises in freaky stuffed tigers/whale skeletons etc. Both are free.

zippy539 · 16/03/2005 21:01

Fimbo - I pasted the url into the post then pasted the bit saying how to do it (on our right) then re-pasted the url into the url gap. Is that clear as mud? Can't believe it worked. This has made my week ! .

Go on, Fimbo - have another go!

Fimbo · 16/03/2005 21:01

Very sorry but I am practising this, so please ignore me

hi crystaltips, i have stayed at James Court apartments a few times now ( can't do links either-sorry I am wick)The apartments are right beside the Castle on the Royal mile so couldn't be handier) can easily walk to castle Dynamic earth and ahahaha joke shop(99 West Bow) (kids will love it)Also there are a few takeaways close by if you don't want to cook every night like me. I actually booked through octopus travel website, anyway will attempt web address:
www.jamescourt.com/index

Fimbo · 17/03/2005 20:46

Dh has been on one of these tours in his student days - they are supposed to be excellent.

witchtour

I can do links now-so it does work

Gobbledigook · 17/03/2005 20:56

Do the James Court apts only have 1 bedroom? So I couldn't stay in one with a 4 yr old, 2 yr old and 7 month old?

Sorrel · 17/03/2005 21:02

We had an apt with one bedroom with 2 single beds and a large living room with a double bed in the corner. also had a well equipped kitchen and separate bathroom. Don't know if you can get bigger ones. my only reservation about the place was the stone spiral staircase to the rooms- if you have loads of stuff and the apartment is on the 5th floor you'd need to be fit. Does have a lovely Harry potter gothic feel about it tho'.

Gobbledigook · 17/03/2005 21:05

And it's not that expensive really at £50 a night - only like a Travel Inn. Is that really right?!
