Club Med or similar?

nigglewiggle · 18/11/2008 20:20

Can anyone suggest a travel company similar to Club Med (high standard of accommodation, facilities etc and very child friendly), for a trip to Med region. Fancy Club Med, but would like to shop around first! Any experiences of Club Med also gratefully received .

I think you should just do ClubMed

nigglewiggle · 18/11/2008 20:49

Have you been with ClubMed or are you just telling me off!

We were going to go skiing with clubmed this winter. But they have no baby listening service post Madeline McCann. As the hotel was v old with thick walls, our baby mointor won;t work and so would have to take 8 month old DD to supper with us each night. Not ideal.

anyfucker · 18/11/2008 21:40

sorry niggle, I couldn't resist

your post mentioned "ClubMed" so many times, I had to tease you

why bother looking for anything else lol

nigglewiggle · 18/11/2008 22:46

Thought I detected a hint of sarcasm! They've been recommended to me, but places I fancy are too far to travel (can't due long-haul due to DVT after second DD), so I just wanted to know what else was out there. It wasn't an advert - honest!

Try Sunsail or Mark Warner....

Been with Sunsail a number of times and really enjoyed it.

Not been with ClubMed

janinlondon · 20/11/2008 16:20

Neilson beachclubs.

nigglewiggle · 23/11/2008 20:09

Thanks. Went sailing with Sunsail a few years ago (pre-children). I think we went to an adults-only resort, so I hadn't thought it, but really enjoyed it. Haven't come across Neilson so i'll do some research.

I'm frozen and dreaming of my first sunny holiday for a very long time!

Thanks again

I'm going Neilson In December

I can't wait

nigglewiggle · 23/11/2008 20:17

Ooh where are you going?

Madeline McAnn was Mark Warner not CM.

KatyMac · 23/11/2008 20:21

Dahab - we went 2 yrs ago & loved it

But couldn't afford it last year

DD is 11 and loves sailing - we are hoping the mountain bikes will be small enough for her this year

The food is nice - Mark Warner food at Abu Soma is better (but £700 more)

The new year entertainment is fab

DH & DD prefer Neilson because the people on MW were a bit snooty (We didn't meet a child at a state apart from DD) I preferred the MW hotel/facilities

I think the accommodation looks crap on Club Med. Where do you want to go to?

Portofino · 23/11/2008 20:27

Oops sorry - saw that you fancied the med. What are your criteria? Wall to wall childcare, really nice accommodations, all inclusive, local colour?

piscesmoon · 23/11/2008 20:29

Club Med is very French. Lovely reps, very friendly. My DCs wouldn't join in anything because all the others were French, and very loudly French.

nigglewiggle · 23/11/2008 20:36

I want a nice beach, pool etc. I'd quite like a spa and hubby would like to do some watersports - I might too! Don't think we'll be using childcare, but you never know. Will be taking a 3 year old and a 1 year old, so not too bothered about what language predominates, but def want it to be child-friendly. Would really like nice food and wine.

Done few ClubMed holidays. The quality of the accomodation is reflected in the number of ratings given to the village and is pretty accurate. The best one we went to when DS was 2 was in Ibiza. Only a ten minute transfer from the airport but bizarrely no airport noise - which we had expected but decided to put up with. We've also been to the one in Italy on the South coast - forgotten the name of that one. It was good too - but had to get a little train thingy to the beach as it was too far to walk. I've heard the ones in Tunisia are good too. I like Club Med - but a week is enough in their villages.

nigglewiggle · 23/11/2008 20:53

That's great. I think we'll only manage a week anyway, thumb-screws have been fully applied to DH to get him away for 7 days!

Forte Village in Sardinia?

nigglewiggle · 10/12/2008 11:33

Oooh, thank you. Just had a look and it looks lovely. I take it you've been?

Went in September - it was lovely. The better accommodation you go for the better it is - there are 7 different hotels.

Club Med Palmiyre in Turkey is fab but we did'nt like Sicily very much as it was too French and we are all fluent French speakers so it was more than alanguage thing!

There is a huge difference between the standards of the resorts and so far I've found everything to be so much better than the website pics.

Almost all Europeans keep children up at night and this is something that may not work for you. Not sure about evening babysitting.

Mark Warner may be better for you, everything about the club Med resorts is massively better than MW in my experience with the exception of childcare and kids clubs. The nannies at MW would take some beating!!

MW Lakitira village in Kos would have some good deals out of the main season I reckon.

Thanks everyone. This is really useful!

I fancied Turkey, but I wasn't sure whether the journey would be too long, considering my susceptibility to DVT but also the fact that we will have a three year old and a one year old with us.

Wouldn't mind keeping children up in the evening if I thought they would behave themselves and wouldn't become demonic!
