Always booked a package before - bit scared of booking separately but not sure why.....is it a bad idea, if so why?

we often do it. Obviouslyl you will need to get from airport to hotel, so we always hire a car, then its with us for the holiday. Otherwise i suppose you have to sort out taxis, and no idea how you do that!

I woudl be scared of booking a package tbh
What if you get there and the co goes bust? Or you hate the hotel?

KatyMac · 18/11/2008 16:27

Hmm - never looked at it that way

I think I am all "holiday search"ed out

Now DH has changed to rules on me - we are now apparently going to Jamaica how we are supposed to do that cheap?

I've never done a package . Just make sure you get holiday insurance, which you maybe take automatically with a package deal - that way if you have to cancel due to serious illness etc then you should be covered.

MissKubelik · 18/11/2008 16:35

we never book packages

just book the flights you want, find a hotel you like, sort out transport from airport to hotel (car hire/taxi/train - the hotel can often help with this) and you're all sorted. Also remember to organise travel insurance policy if you're not already covered.

I have never booked a hotel and flight together, always separately that way we get exactly what we want. Sometimes we end up paying a bit more but mostly we end up getting stuff cheaper.

We've often booked spearately . Biggest disadvantage is the holiday not being as comprehensively covered so ATOL applies only to the flight , not any loss of accommodation costs shodul the airline go under. Also you'd need to arrange your own transfer. Look for a hotel/apartment you can book direct, using google or look at iglu, interhome, expedia etc. You can book frm brochures on an accommodation or flight only basis too. We've done a Thomas Cook flight then chosen a hotel which they used but got much cheaper direct
