I'm off to Barcelona in December for 3 nights with ds who is 18 months old.

I have been once before but was pregnant so was adult orientated holiday.

Was just wondering if anyone could give me any ideas of things to do to keep us both occupied?

Many Thanks

My ideas aren't very exciting, but don't want you to feel you are all alone.

Barcelona can be colder than you think in December - take warm layers!

Remember lovely park with children's play area near Maria Cristina metro. Children's play areas not always fantastic in Spain; broken glass etc, but this one is in v posh area.

Sandy beach.

Parque Guell - interesting for you while ds toddles around.

Remember Spanish love children and you can take them everywhere. Find a nice safe cafe or square with an outside area (I mean safe with no cars) and ds should get you lots of contacts.

Duck pond inside cathedral cloister.

Go on the tourist bus more info here at www.barcelona-tourist-guide as you can get off and on when you feel like it, which might be a good idea with a little one. The city route takes you to the Gaudi's Park (take a pushchair) it's uphill from the bus stop.

You can buy tickets once you are there from the little Tourism booths in the main street.

Also see barcelona family activities link from the same site.

Is the Gaudi Park the theme park at the top of the hill?

We didnt make it that far last time (7 months preggars) but thought ds might like it.

Just trying to find things that will keep ds 18 months, sis and boyf (23), aunt and uncle (40's), and mum and partner (50's) entertained... it aint easy!

I'd say you might want to split up for some of the time, if it's going to be stressful to find things that everyone wants to do.

The Parque Guelle (Gaudi Park) has got fountains, statues, weird art nouveau things.

I think the theme park is on top of another hill, beginning with M... where they had the Olympics...

I'd second the bus idea.

We went on the cable car; goes from hilltop to the beach. Went to a flamenco night, was fab, didn't have DD at the time (was preggers (found out that day) and it was a little smoky). Park Guell is gorgeous, if a little steep. There's a cracking big el corte ingles (sp) for some cool shopping. The bf might like to visit the football stadium, which can be reached on the tourist bus. There's a Miro museum along the tourbus route too, which was excellent and there was a decent cafe there. A walk (or tourbus) to la sagrada familia (the gorgeous Gaudi cathedral) is definitely worth it.

There's often wee markets along Las Ramblas (worth a look), we were told to look out for pickpockets there, but didn't see any evidence of this ourselves.

Good luck - I hope you enjoy yourselves

Park Guell by Antoni Gaudi. Spanish Art Nouveau movement. Gaudi created an entirely original style. He died in Barcelona in 1926. Its not a theme park. Why would you go to a theme park when you are in Barcelona?

geordieminx · 25/11/2008 08:39

Oooooo get you. Culture Vulture. I'm fully aware who Gaudi was thanks. I'm also aware that he died in 1926 - he was hit by a tram.

The place I was trying to think of was Tibidabo, you get the cable car up there. Perhaps "theme park" was the wrong choice of words, but we definately plan to vist - its supposed to be a lovely park with fantastic views, and a great place for an 18 month old to run off some steam.

here is the link if you are interested Waltzy...perhaps not

Oooohhhh get you too. You did ask if it was the Theme park, so only telling you it's not the one you were thinking of.

Really there is no thanks for putting links for some people. Bumped 3 x, one answer to kick off and then snarky comments. The link for Tibidabo, was on the family activity page, which I put on my first post. So maybe you didn't bother to follow or read it then.

No need for ...."perhaps not"..... comment.

geordieminx · 25/11/2008 08:59

I apologise - I hadnt realised that you had posted earlier on in the thread, thank you for your earlier links, it was from that website that I got the link to the park.

Apologies once again.

Thanks, it can be easily done, you know, to miss who posted what. FWIW I am with PMT, so more flippant than usual so excuse me too. I hope that you all have a good time.
