Darwin in July?

Dh and I are trying to use up some airmiles whilst my parents are here in NZ looking after ds. We can fly to Darwin business class, and everywhere else we can go economy is in it's rainy season. I have decided that using airpoints to go anywhere closer is a false economy as you can often get the flights including taxes for not much more than we would have to pay in taxes.

My other suggestion to dh is Ulhuru (Ayers Rock) which would be half the airpoints, but I think we would need a second mortgage to afford accomodation.

Anyone got any good suggestions with 200,000 Qantas points in July for 2.

hi have been to Darwin in July. Hot but fab. Trips out to katherine gorge, litchfield, um trying to think of other national park name - aboriginal area/restricted access - gorgeous views and wonderful rock art. We were only there 4 nights I think, then on to Uluru. Yes, expensive - it was our honeymoon tho - only stayed there one night.

what about the kimberly region? Not been but supposed to be amazing. Or east coast nr Perth / shark bay etc or is that too many points?

I think you were trying to think of Kakudu Racers? I lived there for 6 months ( a long time ago...)

I think Litchfield is more spectacular in some way - it was just being opened up when I was there so still very unspoiled. July is definitely the best time to go to that area and if you haven't been before I would really recommend it if you haven't been before. I also love the Alice Springs area - and you could probably do a side trip to Ulhuru from there?

I am tempted to just go for a long weekend to Ulhuru. It's a bit of a con that we still have to pay $800 even with airpoints. I think they make the surcharges deliberately large.
