JET-LAG TIPS FOR 1 & 3 YR OLDS ---PLEASE---

Am flying to NYC alone with 3 and 1 year old DSs to stay with my sister next month. I am dreading the jet lag and would really appreciate any tips...

For example:

Is it worth starting to prepare them in advance?

I read somewhere that you should adjust your watch to the 'new time' before take off etc?

Or do we just cope with it when we get there?

Help!

Hi, I would say dont worry yourself about it just go with the flow, They'll sleep etc when they want to, enjoy yourselves!

You will have less problems with the 1 year old than the 3 year old, I think. With my DS when we went to Australia, I made sure I woke him from his day time nap, even though he was really grumpy when I did, because to him it was night time. But it did mean that he slept the 'real' night!

Just try and keep DS aged 3 up until his normal bedtime. I found my two coped far better than I did. And to be honest NYC is not too bad as the time difference is not quite so bad as flying to Colorado like I did . You'll be fine, don't stress it. Keep sugar to a minimum on the flights. Just have something for them to suck on during take off/landing to ease the pressure on the ears and you'll be great. Enjoy your trip here.

Going to New York is not too bad imo. They will wake up really early for a few days but so will you, it's best to just try to go to bed early and deal with the early mornings until it sorts itself out. If you're flying back overnight, get them to sleep as much as possible, have a short nap during the day, and they will conk out at bedtime. Then you will get a lovely lie-in for a few days.

It's only five hours, it will be okay.

Sunlight helps the body to reset its clock, so be sure to have them outdoors as much as you can during the day. Good luck!
