Open Air skating rinks around Christmas time?

I've seen these at various places, but not near us. Does anyone know of plans to have one of these this year in northern England or southern Scotland?

I think I may have heard of one in Newcastle?

roisin · 06/11/2008 18:29

Thanks Popsycal, that looks great. We've been to the Life Centre before, but I'm sure the boys would want to go again as well as skating!

I think we'll try and slip that in to our Christmas itinerary.

Lilyloo · 10/11/2008 22:16

Phoenix · 10/11/2008 22:19

Never mind i've found my own answer on the York one

Loshad · 10/11/2008 22:43

There's also a plastic one at Stockeld Park near Wetherby, it's ok to skate on but i find the joins interrupt my flow (or else i'm an unfit old slob)

yorkiegal · 10/11/2008 22:49

not too sure where exactly you are but this is fantastic gets very busy thoughskate

Gobbledigook · 10/11/2008 22:49

ROISIN, they have one at Chester Zoo. We are going to see FC there, plus ice skating. YOu book time slots so the ice is never too crowded. I've never been actually but our friends have and we are all going together - am really looking forward to it!

roisin · 11/11/2008 08:07

Crikey! They are everywhere, aren't they? Definitely no excuse, is there?

We are SW Cumbria so anywhere is a long way from here iyswim. We have rellies in North Yorkshire, Keighley, (north) Derbyshire and Stockport. So plenty of possibilities there.

It seems I'm the only one excited about this.
Actually I'm the only one the least bit interested.

Dh has a scar on his leg from the last time he went ice skating over 20 years ago. He got injured on his calf and was stupid enough not to get it seen to properly and promptly, then it went yucky and took ages and ages to heal.

So apparently he's been regaling the boys with this tale, so now they have no desire to go anywhere near an ice rink either!
