mrsruffallo · 29/10/2008 17:59

It's wonderful isn't it?

The nature trail is fab

tangarine · 30/10/2008 23:52

Nature trail? Is that new?

Kayteee · 06/11/2008 18:59

and the bees..don't forget the bees

woodstock3 · 08/11/2008 20:22

godsend. the aquarium in the basement is great for v littles and the museum bit full of stuffed animals (ds is obssessed with the giant walrus)

Starbear · 09/11/2008 11:26

Oh I haven't been there since I was a kid. How do you get there from Clapham Junction.

Blu · 09/11/2008 11:31

I'm not sure - try tfl Journey planner.

The current 'special exhibition' isn't the most child-engaging - the music of India - interesting for adults but DS sped through. Totally differnt from the 'prehistoric beasts' and Amazon exibitions they have had in recent years.

Starbear · 09/11/2008 11:33

Of course. thank you

nannynick · 09/11/2008 15:29

It has changed quite a bit since I went as a child (early 80's) though some bits don't seem to have changed a lot - still lots of stuffed birds, foxes, badgers etc. I liked the aquarium, nice little addition. Layout has changed a bit - I recall that we used to enter by the clock tower... now that entrance isn't used anymore.
Only trouble now I have with the place is actually getting there - while not being that far mileage wise, it takes forever travelling through outer London. My fault for living on the Surrey/Berkshire boarder

peachsmuggler · 09/11/2008 16:15

Get the train from C Junc to Forest Hill then it's a 5 min walk up the hill.

HeadFairy · 09/11/2008 16:17

I love it too, and it's free! DS loves the aquarium!

plumandolive · 10/11/2008 13:01

My brother lives near- we love it.

Seeline · 10/11/2008 13:04

My kids loved the music room with loads of instruments to try. We were lucky last time we went (about 1 yr ago) they had a special exhibition of the BBC's walking with Dinosaurs models - a great hit. I think it's gone now, but I'm sure they'll have other specials. Can vouch for the walk from Forest Hill - very easy.

EffiePerine · 10/11/2008 13:05

don't forget the walrus

fab place (and lovely gardens in the summer)

PerkinWarbeck · 10/11/2008 13:09

We used to live a short bus ride from the museum, and it was our very favourite rainy day place. The aquarium is beautiful, and it's lovely having the little animal centre in the gardens.

We only left London a month ago and I miss it already!

EffiePerine · 10/11/2008 13:12

Perkin, when did you move? Did you move jobs in the end as planned?

Bump will soon be larger than me, estimated weight at 32 week scan 5 1/2 lbs

mrsruffallo · 10/11/2008 13:13

No-nature trail isn't new, it is hidden away beyong the walled gardens , there is a pond etc it is quite wonderful.
Lol at the walrus- it's quite spectacular isn't it?

SixSpotBonfire · 10/11/2008 13:13

Yes, it's very good.

We get the DLR to Lewisham and then a bus (can't remember what number).

PerkinWarbeck · 10/11/2008 13:18

5.5lb at 32 weeks?

Hope you and your lovely DS are keeping well.

I start work when the CRB eventually get round to signing off my police check. Not this side of Christmas given their current backlog .
