Hi there, Off on hols shortly with ryanair and have booked priority boarding to try to keep everyone together.

We're taking mainly handluggage. Although we've checked in online, I'm wondering if they'll weigh the luggage at some point. The kids and I look a bit like joey from friends when he wore all of the clothes at once - just wondering at what point we can peel some layers off if we get warm and stuff them in the handluggage (which may take each one nearer to the 10kg limit)!
tia!!

hi, i flew ryanair few weeks back. They didn't check the weight on any of the handluggage, only hold stuff which is a ridiculous 15kg (6 of which was my case!!!)

I had to take half the stuff out of my case before i left the house.

I saw that those who had checked in online seemed to be most off the hook as the didn't have to go anywhere near a ryanair official, till security. They don't have scales either.!!

I also flew ryainair in the summer and we also never had the weight of our hand luggage checked at all.

Their checked in luggage allowance is ridiculous.

They'll probabaly be more worried about the size of hand luggage than the weight. So if your hand luggage fits easily into one of those metal racks, then you'll be fine.

I think once you're past check-in and security you can relax. And remember that some air ports only let you take ONE item of hand luggage, which includes a hand bag however small.

yes ryanair only allow one piece. i took my lovely tesco hessian bag, with all our food in (TAKE FOOD!) and i popped my handbag on top.

we took rolls crisps etc... as sandwich on ryanair is £5, a cuppa is £2.50. i had to have a cuppa tho.

IllegallyBrunette · 28/10/2008 10:02

We didn't take food PC, as we didn't think it was allowed, but then when we got on board there were loads of people unwrapping their lovely homemade sandwiches lol.

OOh thanks for the food tip (especially since OH is coeliac and DS2 is diabetic!). Hopefully we'll be in Prague for dinner, but last time we had a 4 hour delay at the airport.

Also experiencing the same issues as piratecat!

i always take lots of food, i get hungry on flights!!! I resent paying that kind of money for rubbish. Also much cheaper than paying in departures form ore tasteless stuff.

Skramble · 30/10/2008 23:14

If you are not sure about food you can buy stuff once through check in and take it on board still cheaper and better selection than on board.

But certainly taken crisps, biscuits and sweets through security check no problems. I don't suppose well wrapped sandwiches will cause any problems.

DadInsteadofMum · 01/11/2008 14:19

You can't take fluids through security though you can buy after security and then take onto flight (except in Turin where having bought loads of waters for DCs on flight it was taken off me at door - not happy but wasn't going to argue with XL Italian security).

Sandwiches of any type (well wrapped or otherwise ) should not be a problem.

With regards to priority boarding it is not uncommon for up to 2/3 of the lfight to have priority boarding (another Ryanair way of taking money off you for no real benefit) - so get to the gate it good time and then go and joing the prioiry boarding queue immediately (there is usually a roped off queueing line for priority)
