Transporting infant car seat safely

Hi all
We're going to Oz in Jan, and want to take the nipper's maxi-cosi car seat with us. I'm worried if we check it into the hold it'll get tossed around and damaged, esp as we and our checked luggage need to transfer planes at Singapore. Does anyone have any advice about how to safely transport an infant car seat? I wonder if it will fit in the overhead bins?
Thanks

Hi Londonista

Lucky you off to Oz, very .

We took bubble wrap and tape to the airport and did a bit diy job, it worked a treat and carseat was still in one piece when we arrived at the otherside.
I def recommend taking your own carseat if you can, but I know that oz are quite strict on their child restraint regulations, although I don't know if they actually apply to tourists.

Happy Holidays

Thanks very much, that's what we thought we might have to do, I'll pack it well and fingers crossed the airline will take care of it!

The above PDF gives more information and applies to everyone.

I do not think you will be able to use your car seat in Australia as it seemingly does not comply with Australia standards (which are even more stringent than the UKs).

We are travelling to Oz again and the UK from NZ and have been advised/discovered on our last trip that it is illegal to use any car seat in Oz that does not have an Australian Standard Mark on it. These are only placed on Australian made and sold car seats making it impossible to leagally use any other car seat. You can hire them from baby companies or with a hire car.

Look at the link ATM has included which is very good and do a google search as there is loads of info. The requirements over and above the AUS Standard Mark can vary from state to state so its worth looking at info for where you will be as well.

good lord ... it's the safest car seat on sale in Europe, but somehow it's not good enough in Australia! Still, at least I don't have to worry about how to pack it. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the nipper to the airport safely in a minicab...
