Hi, we have just booked a holiday in feb to dominican republic. Ds1 will be 2 and half and ds2 will be 9 months, both in nappies.
Is it easy to get nappies out there or are they expensive, worth taking our own? bearing in mind we are going for 2 weeks and we only have 15kg baggage limit.

Also any other tips from anyone whos been there, we will be staying in Sousa, thanks

Very, expensive and the likelyhood is you won't get a choice of brands etc. You are you flying with? I flew with Thomas cook last year and got an extra 10kgs frew for infant allowance when DD was 9 months. As you'll have 45 kgs of total luggage you should be just OK if you skimp on your own and your DH's clothes - you won't need much anyway as its warm both day and night and no need for dressy clothes and shoes.

we went 2 years ago, nappies were £17 for a small pack, wet wipes £5 and shower gel £5. its very expensive and very little choice.

we have been twice and dd has been ill both times, diarrhoea sickness, for 4 days each time. take appropriate meds.

i took a cover up as you will get spradic tropical rain.

we did however have a lovely time, the people are great. we left everything when we went, dd went home in the clothes she stood up in as we gave them away. they are so poor.

It is an very poor country as hifi says and the difference between those that have that have and those that live below the poverty line is immense. You may see signs for "SOS Children's Village" on your travels. Read more here about Giving Back here.

I personally like the idea of leaving new items that you have taken on holiday (to us in the UK which are cheap) like cheap clothes, flip flops, swim suits or toys etc. to the maids at the resort when you depart with a note to them.

Two points to note: be sensitive to people's feelings, when offering; and include a letter that indicates that you've given these items to the employee.

If you have any nappies left over, you could include those as a gift also. Just take enough to get home.

Hope you enjoy your trip.
