4 Hours in Paris

We have 4 hours in Paris on Thursday, travelling through to Florence by train. Does anyone have any ideas about what to do/where to eat, preferably not far from the Gare de Lyon/Gare de Bercy (neurotic about missing the connection). DS is 8.

Any help for a pretty new poster very welcome!

Metro is brilliant. Get the metro to Mont St Michel and have a look around Notre Dame.

My battery is about to go, so I will come back later!

promenade in place des vosges/le marais and falafel lunch in rue des rosiers.

centre pompidou (museum contemporary art) croissants in a cafe & and stroll around les halles.

There is also a market on Ile de la Cite with lots of birds which might be nice for an 8 year old (my ds, 7, certainly liked it).

After visitng Notre Dame, go to Cafe Panis for a coffee/coke/soupe a l'ognion/assiette de frites and watch the people go by

This is great - thank you all so much!

Gare de Lyon is on the Ligne 14 of the metro (the ultrafast modern line).

You can take it two stops to the station Pyramides, which is five minutes from the absolutely gorgeous Jardins du Palais-Royal. There are restaurants in the Palais-Royal and your DS will be able to run around and burn off some energy.

Alternatively you could walk from Pyramides to the Louvre and have a meal in the Café Marly overlooking the Pyramide du Louvre.

I'd go to Sacre Coeur, the views of Paris are just fantastic, you can spot landmarks, see the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, etc. Restaurants nearby.

You can climb up to the top, not scary. Or just sit on the steps outside.

now you need to stop for a week!

Isn't it interesting how we all have our own different favourite places to go!

I just love Paris. We transit it every year on our way to and from skiing and also whenever we got to SOuth Africa and we awlays make a point of giving ourselves a few hours to enjoy it.

Thanks everyone - we parked our baggage at the Gare de Lyon and took the Metro to Pyramides and had a lovely afternoon in the Tuileries Gardens. (I nearly lost my arm and DS when the Metro doors closed, but that's another story...)
