Monkey world, Weymouth. Can a visit be done in just a few hours or is a whole day better?

Going to Haven in Weymouth on the 31st Oct. Monkey world has free entry for anyone in full halloween fancy dress.
We would arrive there at about 12pm and need to get to Haven by 2 or 3pm. Is that long enough to look around? Don't want to waste the chance of free entry!

We really loved monkey world. Yes it is possible to do it in 2 or 3 hours, but be warned they have an ace play park

PoppyCoc · 16/10/2008 00:25

Yes it is possible, monkey world is great but can easily be done in two hours. We went to Monkey world in the morning and spent the afternoon on Weymouth beach - was a great day out

PoppyCoc · 16/10/2008 00:26

Oh and

I heart weymouth - spent many summers on the fab beach

Kaplumbagadort · 16/10/2008 10:36

Thanks sounds great.

I don't think i will have to worry about the play park when they know they will be off to Haven after monkey world.

hope you have a great holiday - will you let me know what Haven weymouth was like as we are thinking of spending a week there

CountessDracula · 16/10/2008 11:03

God I hated monkey world
It was hideous
and I saw bugger all monkeys

PoppyCoc · 16/10/2008 11:19

I saw loads CD. Why do you think it was hideous?

Kaplumbagadort · 16/10/2008 12:45

poppycoc This is our 3rd Haven break! My dc love it there. They love the characters and evening entertainment inc bingo!

My kids got very bored with monkeys in the end - by the time we got to the good stuff - oranutangs (sp?) etc they wanted to do something else - I'd keep it quite brisk if you want to see the big ones at the end!

sparklesandnowinefor8days · 16/10/2008 12:56

monkey world is fab

BUT we got there about 10-11 ish and it was heaving, everyone wants to see the monkey's (obviously!) and they don't care who they push out of the way to see them...man, woman or child...i found some of the adults behaviour horrid tbh they were pushing children out of the way to see the monkey themselves!

so we disappeared away from all that to the nature trail and for a coffee and by about 1-2ish most people had gone and we could look around in relative peace and see everything

plus you could always get to Haven a little later and avoid the mad rush for the keys!!

Kaplumbagadort · 16/10/2008 12:58

Ah sparkles we won't have a rush for keys! Got the holiday from a private seller on Ebay. Saved me a fortune too.

Sounds like we will be there at the worst time of day and i immagine it will be worse because of free entry.

We will have a quick look then go i think. Can then go for a swim or something at Haven!

Have they got an indoor pool at the Haven in Weymouth Kap?

thumbwitch · 16/10/2008 13:02

we did monkey world on the way home from Dorset in July, so probably spent about 4-5 hours there and that seemed to be enough. DS was too young for the play park bit so we could miss that out entirely.

It was pretty good but we went on a monday morning and I think it might just have still been termtime so that helped!

Kaplumbagadort · 16/10/2008 13:02

Yes they do. There is one at all 3 of the weymouth parks i think.(Haven't been to seaveiw)

dustystar · 16/10/2008 13:03

I love monkey world and its definitely possible to get around it in a couple of hours. Be warned though that if its wet and/or too cold most of the animals will be inside which really limits what you can see of them.

sparklesandnowinefor8days · 16/10/2008 13:05

really? i never knew you could buy holiday's off ebay...never thought of it tbh

and i've just paid the remainding £300 for ours at easter this morning

Tommy · 16/10/2008 13:08

would agree with other poster about the play park. My DSs whizz around and take one look at each monkey then they want to play on the park - and they can be there for hours

Kaplumbagadort · 16/10/2008 13:14

There are many who do holidays on Ebay for their privatly owned caravans.
Our break is 3 nights end of half term and cost £170. (Had to pay for Haven entertainment passes seperatly) And it is aparently a luxury van! (Wipes at the ready for DC with sticky fingers!)

How much were the passes Kap?

Kaplumbagadort · 16/10/2008 13:32

£16 adult £8.50 child. Free under 5.
The price goes up slightly during peak season ie summer hols. I don't know the price though.

A couple of hours is fine - you really do need a non-rainy day though.

There's quite a lot of Halloweeny-half-term type stuff going on in the area that weekend.

Kaplumbagadort · 16/10/2008 13:45

Fingers crossed for a dry day then! Not much chance of that i guess but lets hope.
