Anyone been to La Gomera? Any tips?

We're planning to go, mid-November, with DS who will then be 19m (might be walking by then, isn't yet though). I'll be about 16 wks pg.

We've only done self-catering since he was tiny, as it seems most peaceful - anyone stayed anywhere they'd recommend?

Also, what kinds of things will we be able to do with a nearly-toddler in Nov?

We could go somewhere completely different if anyone has any brilliant ideas - we'd like some warm sunshine, walking, swimming, peaceful time. No further than the Canaries!

We went to La Gomera twice, once on our honeymoon and back with DS aged 9m. We stayed self catering in villa complex on the south (next to Playa Santiago) but ate out several times. As in the rest of Spain kids are welcome in most places.
We walked quite a bit with DS in back carrier (maybe not something you want to do 16w pregnant!), even climbed the highest mountain. Most of the island is quite steep (push chair would be pretty much a nightmare), and there are no sandy beaches. But it's so beautiful and peaceful!
Near El Cedro is very pretty and there's a grassy field in the centre of the island where the Gomerans come in the weekend to relax and barbecue, very friendly and stacks of kids running about. I've forgotten the name of it but will have a think.
Anything else you want to know?

Field is called Laguna Grande, also has small nature walk and restaurant.
There's a visitor centre in North East of Island with botanic garden near Las Rosas, we walked from there in the direction of the coast on very quiet road with push chair.
Driving down from centre of island to Valle Gran Rey is amazing, and in Valle Gran Rey itself there is a beach. There is a nicer bit I think but we just happened to hit the south end and I wasn't impressed.

We spend most days going for walks, swimming in pool and just enjoying the peace and quiet.

dutchmam, that's really helpful, thank you! Can you remember exactly where you stayed, and would you recommend it? Also, what sort of time of year were you there (trying to work out if swimming with DS is even vaguely probable!)
thanks v much for reply.

Hiye, we went in late february/early March first time and April second time. We stayed in complex of Holiday Property Bond, you have to be member to stay there. www.hpb.co.uk/. I can certainly recommend it but it's a bit much to join just for one holiday (it works that you put money in it and get 'points' to spend on holidays depending on how much money you put in)
Temperature should be fine I think outside but water temp may be a bit chilly, unless pool is heated... hadn't thought of that!

The weather is a bit funny, in that every afternoon the clouds come to the north of the island so no sun after that there but beautiful lush vegetation. South side is much sunnier but therefore less plants.
