We are renting a cottage late October near Bourton-on-the-Water with our very active 16 month old - any recommendations for good places to visit please - indoor/outdoor/whatever? Thanks!

The Cotswold Wildlife park near Burford is v. good. I used to take ds there till he was about10. There's a fair bit of indoor stuff if it's raining, also a miniature train ride round some of the fields (lions, zebras, rhinos etc are all in big fields, not little cages)

Can really recommend the Cotswold Farm Park near Guiting Power ~ rare breeds, goats 2 feed, pets corner and great little restaurant. Great space to run around outside ? open just at weekends in Oct.
Swimming @ Cirencester - lovely baby pool. Only been opened 2 years. Easy to find on the ring road. Small restaurant but toddler friendly space & menu. Also have beauty therapy if you wanted to book yourself a treat.
For a wet day , Magicland in Cirencester is great 4 soft play but gets busy & noisy so ideal todo during school hours. sofas & Tv for Dads! Its well signposted and easy 2 find. When busy parking is tricky.
Westonbirt Arboretum - stunning in the Autumn - We live here at the weekends - bring your wellies as there is acres to run around and 1/2 of the grounds are no-dogs. lovely outdoor hands-on play areas for toddlers near the oak hall. Great restaurant but pricey. Will be very busy at weekends in Oct. Make a day of it to get your moneys worth.
Slimbridge - wildfowl and wetlands trust - great for swans and water birds etc.
Hope that helps ~ have agreat time

Thanks for all the suggestions - never would have thought of swimming but we've only been once at home in London and it was so filthy I didn't want to take her back!

There is a nice new-ish public sports centre in Bourton itself - at the Cotswold School. There is also Batsford Arboretum just outside Moreton-in-Marsh - much nearer than Westonbirt though smaller. And a Falconry place on the same site.

And if you want to take him for a walk in some lovely woods for free, carry on up the road through Bourton-on-the-Hill, turn right opposite the petrol station onto the B4479 to Blockley, a hundred yards or so along there park in the entranceway on the left and enjoy the trees and leaves without spending anything!
