Malvern Hills

I need a recommendation of a good hill to climb in the Malverns (with children who are used to hill walking). Where to park? What would there be to see at the top? Possibility of kite flying?

Also need a recommendation for a good tea shop/ cafe open during the day during this coming half term (ie mid week) somewhere in the vicinity.

If you can combine both of the above, ie a good hill to climb with a good tea shop / cafe nearby, that would be perfect.

Thanks.

None at all, but my friend has emailed to say that she likes the sound of the British Camp.

She also mentioned the Herefordshire Beacon. Is that the same as the Worcestershire one? I know somewhere round there is where 3 counties meet, isn't it?

oh, and dont worry about dog poo. malvern people are very refined. they now scoop poo into plastic bags. and leave the plastic bags on the footpaths. much easier to see and avoid than poo!

dont know about the point of 3 counties meeting. only been here six years, still an ignoramus. sorry.

slayerette · 07/10/2008 20:20

Yes, herefordshire Beacon is also in the Malverns. You need an OS Explorer map, number 190!

DumbledoresGirl · 07/10/2008 20:20

LOL not worried about dog poo. My children will be wearing walking boots. They have seen a lot worse than dog poo!

This site might give some ideas for walks you can do

DumbledoresGirl · 07/10/2008 20:21

Actually, not sure that is true. Is dog poo better or worse than sheep poo and cow poo? Discuss!

Great link Norbert, thanks. It looks so beautiful there.

Dog poo is far, far worse.

Cows and sheep are herbivores so poo not as bad

NorbertDentressangle · 07/10/2008 20:24

Have a look at the area on Google Earth too - I love Google Earth its amazing

DumbledoresGirl · 07/10/2008 20:29

Will I be able to spot the dog poo though?

dog poo = main topic of conversation via the local paper letters page, lol.

NorbertDentressangle · 07/10/2008 20:58

zandy -you're obviously a Gazette reading local.

Can we tempt you to the Worcestershire MN meet-up? Theres a thread in Meet Ups at the moment -trying to decide a date, most probably next month.

NorbertDentressangle · 07/10/2008 21:01

I will take a look and ruminate on it, thanks for the heads up.

samsonthecat · 07/10/2008 21:59

Hi again, I meant the Worcestershire Becon when I said "the top".
As Norbert has already said there is a thread in the meet ups section running at the moment for the next worcestershire meet up. Any one local is welcome.

SaintRiven · 08/10/2008 07:51

when I lived in Malvern there were some summer days the stench of dog poo and wee atually hung over the hills. It was vile.
Hope its better now!
