We had a brilliant two weeks in France last summer (DD nearly 5, DS 2.5) with a week on the coast in a cheap rental booked direct with owner at cheznous.com and then a week inland in the Dordogne here \link{http://www.lechevalblanc.co.uk/} which was big enough for 3 families - maybe even 4. It was fab. Kids didn't mind the drive and loved the food. Doing it with other families keeps the cost down too. We usually do UK bucket and spade but this worked brialliantly for us

Sri Lanka with ds (then aged 3) and dd1 aged 18mo. beautiful country. Flight was hell though.

We got back yesterday from Taba in Egypt. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency., Absolutely fabulous and very reasonably priced (we got free child place). Perfect for little ones - loads of pools, great food, you can see the marine fish off the jetty on the beach. Big rooms. Friendly staff.

Dh, Dd1 and I went to Canada, our only family trip abroad so far. Dd1 was 4 and we all had a fab time, even got married while we were there.

This year we're going to Florida, dd1 will be 8 and dd2 will be 17 months.

We always hire a villa and self cater when with little ones as hate to be trapped in hotel and don?t trust the listening in services (I know they are ok, just my own paranoia).
Tuscany is good (esp. with a pool).
Canaray islands are fantastic as guaranteed nice weather without being too hot most of the time so safer with little ones, loads of things to do for children and can easily avoid the tacky nightclub scene if you wish.

australia with dd1 when she was 8 months old and we were living in the UK. It was to meet the family as well as have a beach holiday. She loved the beach and it was great to get away.
