Day out in Liverpool

Advice needed for parking and how to get around. Not sure if we should leave the van somewhere and travel in, and how best to get to the maratime museum.

Any other great places to go in Liverpool. Kids are 8 and 11

Lime street station is very central and has good links. Where are you travelling from?

this link may help with things to do

What sort of things do you like doing?

Plonker · 23/09/2008 23:02

This may be useful

Skramble · 23/09/2008 23:39

Thanks, we might be staying somewhere near Frodsham which is south of Runcorn.

Kids like museums (not too stuffy) and well anything really open to all ideas. We are going to Chester zoo and over to alton towers.

If you like museums, we went to the World Museum last year, which the children really enjoyed. Plenty of interactive stuff to do

Knowsley safari park is a great day out, and there's aerial extreme there now which is supposed to be fantastic fun, although i have been myself yet

take a look here

Skramble · 24/09/2008 22:18

Thanks I will have a look at those, Aeral Extreme seems a bit pricey but if just the kids do it then I suppose it is not bad, it would be fun to all go together but DD wouldn't be on the adult one anyway.

Delamere forest is really close to Frodsham and has this Go Ape site, if your eldest is adventurous. Youngest is not allowed to join in but the bike routes are nice in the forest if they are into that sort of thing.

Skramble · 24/09/2008 23:07

Don't fancy something that only ds can do but might take the bikes.

Like the sound of freebies, whats that all about.

Would second the galleries,

The Walker is right next to the World Museum and the staff in both are really helpful and friendly, you can park directly outside if you get there nice and early (9am), otherwise we always park on the pay and display at St John's Precinct as it's really central. What kind of van are you driving though? I wouldn't want to be negotiating the ramps in a great big camper!

There are huge car parks down at the docks that would be better for a bigger vehicle.

I love Liverpool.

serin · 24/09/2008 23:33

Or you could drive up to Seacombe or Birkenhead, leave the van there (assumming it's insured ) and arrive in style on the ferry!!

Skramble · 25/09/2008 21:48

I wondered about getting the ferry over. Yes van is insured , just a small size van similar to a small transit van, so multistorys not ideal. On the museum website it seemed to be all multistories. Whats Liverpool like for driving around anyway, not freaked out by cities but don't want to be stuck in an endless one way system full of only parralel parking spaces I could never fit in.

Open air parking at the Docks for the Maritime museum, and directly outside the Walker and World Museums.

Liverpool's okay for driving around, certainly nowhere near as bad as any town in the south east!

Skramble · 30/09/2008 13:29

Thanks feeling a bit more confident about taking my van now.
